One thing that changes when you add continuous monitoring alongside periodic inspection:

The inspection becomes intentional instead of procedural.

Without continuous data, every asset on your route gets roughly equal attention. With it, you already know which panels have been running hot, which have had partial discharge events, which are behaving differently than they were last month. The inspection becomes targeted. You're verifying what the data flagged, not hoping something shows up.

That shift — from routine to directed — is where the risk reduction actually happens.

IRISS and ASNT are teaming up to bring S.M.A.R.T. Training to the NDT community.

Level I, II, and III infrared thermography courses, now available through ASNT's eLearning portal, built around ASNT SNT-TC-1A, ANSI/ASNT CP-105, and CP-189 recommended practices. NETA CTD credits included.

For reliability teams, this means training that closes the gap between thermal physics and what actually happens on the floor: catching electrical and mechanical faults before they become failures.

A $3,000 thermal scan can catch what a $50,000 mold remediation can't undo.

Moisture intrusion in industrial facilities rarely announces itself. It moves behind walls, above ceilings, beneath roofing membranes, quietly saturating insulation and corroding components long before a stain or odor gives it away.

Infrared thermography won't show you water directly. But it will show you the temperature patterns wet materials leave behind, cool spots from evaporative cooling, warm patches where wet insulation holds heat longer than dry. That's enough to narrow where to look before you start cutting into walls or roofing.

It's not a standalone answer. Thermal patterns still need confirmation from a moisture meter or another diagnostic method. But paired right, it's one of the fastest ways to catch a small problem before it becomes a structural one.
