Landscaping With Native Plants I prepare plant designs for gardeners in Southwestern Montana using native plants.

Landscaping using predominantly native plants is one of the very best ways an individual can significantly help restore our environment. My designs incorporate plants that grow in Montana as well as southern Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba; western North and South Dakota, and Nebraska; and eastern Wyoming and Colorado. My designs are based on the ecology of each area and take full advantage of native plant landscaping -- saving water and saving money on plants since perennial native plants don't have to be replaced every year; supporting native wildlife such as birds and butterflies; and requiring much less maintenance.

Not native, but for those who might combine "native" with the immense productivity of zucchini 😃 our friend Mary showed me this zucchini trick in her garden today... raise'em upright and vertical! Easy to see, easy to harvest, easy to trim the dead leaves. Happy zucchini bread.

One corner of our front yard. Fern bush, still blooming next to the porch, along with sedum and w**e cups and a few blankets flowers. Across the sidewalk path are wild rose, catmint, goldenrod, two kinds of liatris. Then a "hedge" of rabbit brush. Under the crab apple are false blue indigo, wild geranium, and two kinds of asters, and red feather. As recently as a week ago, all were in bloom except the wild rose. Most still are.

With native plants come native bugs, and we have noticed a plethora of ants in the yard. They go about their ant business and don't bother anybody unless you put your hand down in them.😃 And in order to show full circle appreciation, a pair of flickers come in to dine upon the ants.
