We’re proud to share that Freja House received two recognitions in the AIA Montana Design Awards: an Energy Award and a Design Excellence Citation Award.

This marks the first time the AIA Montana jury has awarded an Energy Award, making the recognition especially meaningful for a project grounded in high-performance design.

Thank you to the AIA Montana jury for recognizing this project and the thoughtful design behind it.

We’re headed to the Cold Climate Building Science Conference in Bozeman next week. Will we see you there?

And if you can’t make it to the , you can still join us for a little building science after-hours. We’re co-hosting an evening social with at Bridger Brewing on Tuesday.

Come for the b**r, stay for the building science. We’ll see you there.

We're honored to be recognized as a Metropolis Magazine Planet Positive Award winner for Aska's Animal Haus in the Use of Biobased Materials category.

Aska’s Animal Haus is a single-family residence in rural Idaho designed for health, wellness, and sustainability. We paired prefabricated straw panels by New Frameworks with Passive House strategies to create a non-toxic, energy-efficient home that supports both human and animal occupants.

Thank you, Metropolis Magazine, for this recognition!

A Boy Scout camp turned high-performance home in the Rocky Mountain West.

We were tasked with transforming a site once home to troop cabins into an energy-efficient home inspired by "park ranger" style. We prioritized durability, comfort, and a strong indoor-outdoor connection.

As experts in Passive House design, we incorporated passive solar design and climate-specific building science throughout.

Follow along for more project updates and inspiration.

Architizer named Love Schack Architecture one of the eight best local firms in the world.

As they put it: "You can usually tell when an architect really knows a place. It shows up in the details: how a building responds to climate, which materials make sense, what local construction traditions have to offer, and what the landscape allows or demands."

We couldn’t agree more. We take great pride in being part of the Rocky Mountain West, and our work is deeply rooted in the landscapes, climates, materials, and communities that define this region.

Thank you, Architizer, for recognizing Love Schack Architecture as one of the Best Local Firms in the A+Awards.

Step inside Meadow House, aptly named for its location in Wyoming's picturesque Teton Valley.

Surrounded by aspen trees, every window frames views of the landscape. The high-performance windows are a key part of the airtight building envelope, helping protect indoor air quality by reducing smoke infiltration and creating a healthier indoor environment. This is especially essential during wildfire season.

We're honored to be named a finalist in Metropolis Magazine's Planet Positive Awards for Aska's Animal Haus in the Use of Biobased Materials category.

The project is built with prefabricated straw panel construction by New Frameworks Natural Design/Build. While straw has historically been used in experimental builds, we elevated it to a high-performance, Passive House-compatible system, demonstrating that low-carbon, bio-based materials can meet rigorous energy-efficiency standards in extreme climates.

Thank you, Metropolis Magazine, for this recognition! Congrats to all of the finalists: https://metropolismag.com/programs/here-are-the-2026-planet-positive-awards-project-and-innovation-finalists/

Introducing Aska’s Animal Haus, featured in The Architect's Newspaper.

Built with straw panel assemblies and guided by Passive House principles, the project offers a different approach to building in the Mountain West.

“The Mountain West is developing fast, and much of what’s going up, [Lindsay Schack] said, doesn’t always have the best building science behind it. Aska’s Animal Haus is her answer to that: a home where affordability, health, and environmental responsibility aren’t competing goals. ‘Once people understand what Passive House is and what it’s based upon, and what it gets you,’ she said, ‘there’s really no alternative.’”

Thank you, The Architect's Newspaper, for featuring our project! Keep reading at the link in our bio.

Wellness begins in the foundation of your home.

Straw-based Structurally Insulated Panels (SIPs) are prefabricated, self-supporting wall sections filled with chopped, densely compressed straw inside a wood frame. Instead of foam, they use an agricultural byproduct with far lower embodied carbon.

The density of the straw helps resist fire spread and, because it is too densely packed, it does not attract pests. Panels are installed quickly, which is a major advantage in regions with short building seasons and limited labor. It is a smart evolution of straw-bale building, pairing natural materials with contemporary fabrication.

Our friends at New Frameworks Natural Design/Build are the experts at S-SIPs, and we’re grateful to have collaborated with them on a recent project.
