From the feature in about a Jackson house we designed in collaboration with - “Adjacent to the kitchen, the family room includes a Saba sectional, vintage shearling chair, Stahl + Band coffee tables and an Avantgarden Ltd. floor lamp. The artwork is by Piero Dorazio. A fireplace surround of metal paneling plays off reclaimed timber beams and dry-stacked Montana stone.”

The homeowners’ existing prized 14-foot-long dining table provided JLF’s Logan Leachman with architectural inspiration for this Jackson Hole home: the heirloom piece, crafted of wood repurposed from the doors of an ancient Italian church, dictated the space’s dimensions - highlighted with a grid of windows soaring into the gable end to maximize mountain views. Together with design-build partner , we approached the complete renovation of a Park City log house, with the intent to resize the interior spaces while modernizing the outdated aesthetic. Giant log columns were removed and wood beams replaced and streamlined with vaulted steel trusses layered over an earthy gray reclaimed-plank ceiling in the living room.

Centered in a courtyard, the main entry soars with a glass-and-steel atrium that allows daylight to flood the house. Although the palette of materials seems traditional—wood, stacked stone, and glass—the way in which these elements come together is decidedly contemporary. – from a chapter in our book “Foundations” about a Jackson Hole project we call “Shoot for the Stars.”
