Most of the trees we take down looked perfectly fine from the driveway.

Full leaves. Good color. Nothing obviously wrong with it.

The problem was under the grass — roots cut years ago when somebody trenched for a sprinkler line or poured a patio, soil compacted by equipment, or a root plate that quietly rotted out while the top of the tree kept doing its job.

A tree can hold a full canopy on a root system that's already given up. It looks like it's thriving right up until the day it goes over sideways with every leaf still green on it.

That's why "it looks healthy" isn't a plan.

👇 Tell us which tree it is. We'll handle it.

That tree isn’t dying; it’s dead. It’s just still standing.

There’s a significant difference, and it matters more than most homeowners realize. A dead tree doesn’t fall on a nice Saturday when you have time to deal with it. Instead, it comes down during a storm, at 2 in the morning, and in whatever direction the rot decides.

We recently cleared one at a job site, along with the rest of the debris and the surrounding area. Nobody was hurt, and nothing was damaged because it came down on our schedule rather than the weather's.

Here’s the part people often overlook: a healthy tree falls where you cut it, but a dead one doesn’t. The wood may be soft in places you can’t see from the ground, so the hinge you’re depending on might not hold. Sometimes, the trunk can even split straight up the middle while you’re standing at its base.

Combine that with a ladder and a chainsaw you rented that morning, and that’s how someone ends up in the emergency room on a Saturday.

This is the type of work you shouldn’t attempt yourself to save money. It’s a job you should call a professional to handle safely.

Do you have a tree you’ve been walking past for two years? Send us a photo, and we’ll let you know how much time you actually have left.

This patio didn't make it three years. We took every bit of it out.

Here's what was under the pavers:
→ [base depth / what was actually there]
→ [compaction or grading failure]
→ [drainage or fall number]

None of it was visible from the surface. It never is. The homeowner walked out onto a finished patio with no way of knowing what he was standing on.

So we excavated to dirt, built the base the way it should have gone in, and reset the pavers.

Same patio. Second time paying for it.

If your patio is settling, pooling, or feels uneven underfoot, that's the base talking. Send us a message before it gets worse.

‼️Important GE Outdoors Buisness Announcement ‼️

Our team spends their days building beautiful outdoor spaces for other people to enjoy. But when the workday ends, they go home to their own lives; their families, their kids, their friends, and of course, the animals that are part of those lives. So we asked our crew to share a picture of a pet they encounter and love; whether it belongs to them, a family member, a friend, or simply happens to be an animal that has found its way into their heart. 🐾

Now we want YOU to choose your favorite!
👍 React to your favorite photo.
🏆 The photo with the most reactions wins a $25 gift card to their favorite pet store!

At GE Outdoors, we’re proud to be a small, family-run business. That means the people building your project are people we know. People whose families we know. People who have lives outside of the jobsite. We don’t have hundreds of employees or layers of corporate offices between us and the work we do. We have a team of hardworking people who care about craftsmanship, care about our customers, and care about putting their name behind something they’re proud of.

So this is just a little glimpse at the human side of GE Outdoors.

The people.
The personalities.
And apparently… a LOT of cute animals. 😂
Let the voting begin! (Voting Ends Sunday, August 23rd)🐾

She grabbed Tera and hugged her in the front yard.

Before that: a brand-new house with nothing planted around it. She'd just moved to Omaha and had no idea what would make it through a winter here. She told people her house looked naked.

So we started with the design. Then we changed it. Then we changed it again — the grandkids kept using the front yard in ways nobody planned for, so the plan moved with them.

Several revisions later: paving stones running through the middle, and stairs at the end where the elevation drops, so they can get down into the side yard without walking around the house.

Her neighbors stop to compliment it now.

She's already got us back for the backyard.

Those little boulders never stood a chance.

This Elkhorn front landscape sits on a hill. Every rain, the mulch ran downhill and buried the small boulders at the bottom until they quit doing their job entirely.

Nothing was really wrong with this landscape. It just wasn't built for the slope it lives on.

So the dead sumac came out and 1,000 to 2,000 pound boulders are going in — the kind that hold a grade instead of disappearing into it. Landscape lighting comes next so the beds and that tree don't vanish at sundown.

Somewhere Donkey is standing in this yard going "that's a nice boulder." He's not wrong.

Got a hill that keeps washing out on you? Send us a photo and we'll tell you what it actually needs.

Your front yard is the one part of your house you never really look at. Everybody else does.

So when we take one down to dirt, we don't do it with shovels and a long weekend.

That's a sod cutter. It slices under the turf at a set depth so the grass peels up in strips and rolls off like carpet — roots, thatch, all of it, in one pass.

Depth matters more than people think. Cut too shallow and the old lawn comes right back up through your new beds by June. Too deep and you're hauling off good topsoil you're just going to pay to replace.

An afternoon with the right machine, or a whole weekend with the wrong one. Same yard. Very different starting line.
