Join us at the Clarke County Farmers Market this Saturday, June 20th, from 8am - noon for our 10th annual Geneva Jackson Pie-Baking Contest. We will be hosting this event in memory of Ms. Jackson, who is dearly missed as an incredibly influential member of our community.

“Ms. Jackson was known for her cooking and baking – as noted on her GJ BAKE2 license plate – but greater than that, she is known for her tireless service to others.

Over the decades, Ms. Jackson served many local non-profit organizations – often as a board member – including FISH of Clarke County, Help With Housing, American Cancer Society, AIDS Response Effort, Blue Ridge Hospice, and The Laurel Center shelter for abused women. She served as a Clarke County Officer of Elections since 1990.

Since 2017, the annual “Geneva Jackson Pie-Baking Contest” at the Clarke County Farmers’ Market has raised thousands of dollars for The Laurel Center. Those who entered pies for Ms. Jackson’s consideration were thrilled just to meet the legendary cook. A boardroom at the center is named for Ms. Jackson.

The Clarke Courier newspaper named Ms. Jackson its 1994 “Citizen of the Year” because of all her volunteer work. In January 2024, the Clarke County Board of Supervisors honored her with a resolution of recognition and appreciation, noting that at age 90 she had “only slowed down a little.”

Of her life of service Geneva Jackson always said, “Volunteering is like paying rent to live on this Earth.”

Kathy- 30+ years veteran Master Electrician who has been with the buisness from the start and will get in a ditch and outwork any 20 year old guy... and then Kate who hides behind the scenes (as much as possible) to try and keep things running smoothly (as much as possible 😉). It takes a special type to put up with what they do sometimes and its not always easy, but definitely always fun! 👏

"Goonies never say die! Or Ralph never says quit!" The other day, we got a call from a customer smelling smoke from one of their rooms. The guys spent ALL day tracing every circuit, checking every outlet every breaker... couldn't find anything...anywhere.... frustrated Ralph said "this just still doesn't seem right," and out came the drywall saw. After more searching he FINALLY found a hidden junction box IN ACTIVE BURNING 🔥. If you look closely you can see the ember, and the red is melted wire nuts. The box didn't even have a cover and that night could have been a disaster for this family. Thank goodness this horrifying situation turned out positive. Some times you just can't give up!
