If your AC breaker trips once, go ahead and reset it.
If it trips again, quit resetting it.

That breaker's doing its job. Something downstream is pulling more amps than the circuit's rated for. Usually a compressor starting to go, sometimes a corroded disconnect out by the unit.

Keep flipping it back on in 95 degree heat and you're asking a whole lot of one breaker.

Storms in the forecast Saturday.

What usually gets us called the Monday after: garage door opener quit, AC won't come on, TV's dead, well pump's out. Four different things, one surge.

Power strips handle the small stuff. A hit riding in on the service line is a different animal, and it needs to get stopped at the panel before it ever reaches your outlets.

Whole-home surge protection costs less than one AC control board. A lot less than four things at once.

Pull your window unit out and look at the plug.

If the prongs are discolored, or there's brown staining around the outlet slots, that's heat. It's been running hotter than it should for a while now.

Lot of older houses around here have bedroom outlets on a 15 amp circuit that's already feeding half the room. Add a window unit running 8 hours a day in July and something's gonna give.

Usually it's the receptacle. Sometimes it's the wire behind it.
