🪨🌿 A Little More Progress on Our Latest Project!

Remember the stonework we shared earlier? Here's a closer look at what our crew has been working on!

Our guys removed the existing stones, carefully re-set and leveled them to bring the walkways back together. And the work doesn't stop there!

🚜 They're also working on bringing the surrounding yard up to the proper grade in preparation for new sod.

Projects like this involve a lot more than what you see on the surface. From getting the stonework just right to preparing the ground for what's coming next, every step makes a difference!

🍁 LANDSCAPE SPOTLIGHT: Before You Bag Those Leaves…

When the leaves start piling up this fall, your first instinct might be to rake them all up and haul them away. But some of those leaves can actually be put to good use right where they fall!

Leaves are a natural source of organic matter. When they're chopped into small pieces with a mower, they can work their way down into the lawn and gradually break down, returning nutrients and organic material to the soil. 🍂🌱

Leaves can also find a second purpose in compost piles or around appropriate landscape areas instead of automatically heading to the curb.

There is such a thing as too much of a good thing, though. A thick layer of whole, matted leaves shouldn't be allowed to sit on the lawn for long periods because it can interfere with the grass underneath. And leaves from plants showing signs of disease are better removed rather than reused around the landscape.

So, this fall, don't think of every fallen leaf as a mess that needs to disappear.

🍂🌳 LANDSCAPE SPOTLIGHT: Fall Isn't Just the End of the Growing Season

When the leaves begin changing and plants start slowing down, it can seem like the growing season is coming to an end. But below the surface, there's still plenty happening.

For many trees and shrubs, fall can provide an excellent opportunity to become established. As cooler temperatures arrive and above-ground growth slows, roots can continue developing while soil conditions remain suitable. That gives many fall-planted trees and shrubs valuable time to begin establishing before they're faced with the heat and stress of another Kentucky summer.

There's still an important job for us above ground, though — watering. Newly planted trees and shrubs shouldn't be forgotten just because temperatures are cooler. Adequate moisture during establishment is important, especially when fall weather turns dry. 💧

And remember, planting success isn't only about when something goes into the ground. Choosing a plant suited to the location, giving it enough room for its mature size, planting it properly, and providing good follow-up care all matter too. 🌿

Fall may look like nature is slowing down, but underground, a new landscape can already be getting its start. 🍁
