Winter landscape damage often begins before the first snowfall.

De-icing salts used on sidewalks, roads, and parking lots can wash into nearby soil, where sodium may disrupt soil structure and make it harder for turf and plants to take up water. The effects often become visible later as thinning turf, bare patches, or declining plants along pavement edges.

Applying granular gypsum to vulnerable areas in the fall can help prepare the soil before de-icing season begins. The calcium in gypsum helps displace accumulated sodium, supporting better drainage and healthier soil conditions.

For property managers, fall is the time to identify high-risk areas near:

• Sidewalks and building entrances
• Parking lots and drive lanes

• Slopes that receive salty runoff

Dry season is here, and irrigation schedules need to change with it.

What worked in September doesn't work in November. Less rain, lower humidity, and cooler nights mean turf and plant material need water delivered differently—less frequently, but deeper when it runs.

Worth checking now:
Is your controller still on the wet season schedule?
Are zones running long enough to reach the root zone, or just wetting the surface?
Are heads covering evenly, or are dry spots starting to show?

Properties that adjust early stay ahead of the stress. The ones that wait usually end up reacting to damage that's already visible.

Depending on the property, leaves drop steadily for six to eight weeks, and the difference between properties that stay presentable and properties that disappear under leaf litter comes down to one thing: scheduled, recurring removal instead of waiting for the trees to finish.
