It's time to retire a myth, because we are asked this a lot.
When people hear about glass being made bird-safe, they often picture a full film applied across the entire surface of the window.
That’s also where the warranty concern usually starts.
Here’s the key thing to know: Feather Friendly Bird Collision Deterrent Markers visual markers and Bird Divert UV markers are not full-coverage films.
They don’t cover the entire glass, don’t trap heat, and don’t change how the glass performs. Instead, they are small, strategically spaced markers that make glass visible to birds:
• Only 6–8% of the glass surface is covered
• 92–94% of the glass remains untouched
• No solar load buildup
• No impact on insulated glass units (IGUs)
Concerns about full films causing heat absorption and glass stress are legitimate. Marker-based solutions like Feather Friendly and Bird Divert avoid those risks entirely.
After nearly 20 years, more than 12 million square feet installed, and projects in 48+ countries, we haven’t had a single issue related to solar load, cracked glass, or failed IGUs tied to our markers.
In fact, what began as a retrofit solution is now commonly used in new construction, including large projects completed in collaboration with glass manufacturers themselves.
So if you’re weighing bird safety and wondering about warranties, here’s the simple takeaway:
You don’t need to cover glass fully to protect birds. You just need to mark it precisely and lightly, enough to make the glass visible to birds!
