POV: You tear down a porch to build a kitchen addition and discover a 10+ year old sewer problem underneath.
Yep. That happened.
The previous porch construction went right through the sewer line, which has been leaking into the ground for more than a decade.

Out with the old porch.
In with a new sewer line.
Then… hello, dream kitchen.
This is one of the realities of renovation: you never know exactly what you’ll find once you open things up. The important part is having a team that knows how to identify the problem, address it properly, and keep the project moving forward.
