We are excited to share that the MIT Theater Arts Building has received an AIA Educational Facility Design Award! The project is an adaptive re-use renovation of a former warehouse building at the western extent of MIT’s campus. The new program includes rehearsal spaces, design and faculty studios, offices, costume and scene design shops, dressing rooms, and a two-story theater performance space.

Every space in the building, as well as every surface, handrail, and detail, is designed to support theater arts education. As an open and flexible “blank canvas,” the building challenges students and faculty to continually experiment and innovate through the arts, from classroom to stage.

The exhibit was curated and installed by members of Women In Design, including designLAB's Kelly Haigh. It celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Women in Design Award of Excellence, and seeks to recognize the powerful impact of women designers who continue to inspire positive change in the design industry, and the community at large. Led by designers from the Women in Design (WID) community, children age 5-14 are invited to celebrate International Women’s Day as they explore, create, and design with professionals from design firms across Boston. Visitors will also be introduced to the Women leaders who have received the WID Award of Excellence through the exhibition IMPACT: Inspired and Inspiring—Women in Design Award of Excellence 20th Anniversary.
