Urban Horticulture Design

Urban Horticulture Design Urban Horticulture Design is landscape design/build firm that applies horticultural principals to urban spaces to create livable environments.

Urban Horticulture Design is a landscape design/build firm based on the idea that the environment in which we live is as important to the ecosystem as any other environment. Understanding the urban environment as a part of nature and that what we do to shape that environment has long reaching impacts on not just the quality of the surroundings in which we live, but also beyond the borders of the u

rban environments into what we consider nature. We see individual sites as part of an ecosystem, each site from a small urban garden or roof deck, to a corporate campus, to a suburban landscape to a city park plays an important role in the well being of our environment. The spaces that we create function on many levels, we use design to create spaces that are aesthetically pleasing, livable and workable. Urban Horticulture Design provides design and build services to corporate, private and industry clients. We can provide design drawings, installation, and maintenance of our designs. With over thirty years of combined experience in the horticultural industry we can select the right plants for even the most difficult spaces.

10 year countdown TEN YEARS!!

Today we celebrate ten years in business! It has been a long journey from the early days of trying to figure out how we get more projects, to surviving Covid, and now looking forward to an amazing future! We want to thank everyone who has supported us through the years, lent us pickup trucks when we didn’t have them, family and friends that we roped in for labor, and all of our fantastic clients who have made this such a rewarding endeavor!

We are looking forward to the next 10 years!

10 year countdown Day 10. 2022

On the penultimate day of our countdown we look back to last year and one of the stranger things we’ve done (😃see what I did there😉😂😅). We’ve done a lot of holiday setups over the years, but this one was on another level. One of our clients wanted a Stranger Things themed Halloween setup and we pulled out all of the stops. dusted off his sculpture skills and made two Vecnas. Many cans of spray foam and spray paint led to an amazing final product!

10 year countdown Day 8. 2021

In 2021 we had a couple of great small yard projects that shared a clean line aesthetic.

That summer we revisited a project down in Provincetown with . We started this project back in 2017 revamping the overgrown back yard of her cottage. The space was cleaned up and regraded. The first set of four screens were built, along with a seating area pergola. In 2021 we returned and continued the custom cedar screens around the edges of the property for more privacy and added green wall panels between the screens. We refreshed the planting in the back as well as a redesign of the front garden.

You can see what was installed years before as the cedar has the beautiful silver patina!

10 year countdown Day 8. 2020

Covid-19. Like many small businesses we struggled through 2020. Many large installation projects were put on pause as the construction projects they were associated with were halted. Luckily we have a solid base of regular clients that kept us going through the slowdown. Seasonal plantings and some garden refreshes with all the time being spent at home was name of the game. It’s been a long road back but this year is really feeling like we’ve bounced back!

10 year countdown Day 7. 2019

In 2019 we redesigned the landscape of a summer house being renovated in Dartmouth, MA. The primary outdoor space was an old deck off the back of the house. We replaced this with an elevated patio split into two sections, and dining and living area, through a change in paving styles. A custom screen buffered the neighboring yard and reclaimed granite was used for the steps to the yard.

10 year countdown Day 6. 2018

In 2018 one of our clients asked us if we wanted to do some work at the vineyard they had recently purchased in Napa, California. Needless to say we jumped at the opportunity! The first year we flew out and came up with a plan for planters and some intimate garden areas. Over the next few years we redesigned the areas around the house, pool house and front gate. It was a great time researching the local flora and working with the local contractors.
