A little chat from the Greek about our plan for window restoration. All of the windows have been removed and they are being restored at Cleary and Son. Having the interior storms is a big bonus because we don’t have to purchase and install plywood to cover the windows. Leaving the storms rather than covering the windows also gives the added bonus of natural light while we work.

Looking back fondly at our Sunroom project. We took a tired old space that was about to fall over, knocked it down, and built a new and improved version. The elliptical transoms, casements, and French doors are all from the Cradock Mill Shop. We love blending and recreating details to make something new look like it was always there. Taking a look at foundation underpinning the foundation at the Greek with Dylan. Working on an old home like this can get very complicated, so we need to be thoughtful and intentional at every step so we don’t do any harm to the structure.

At some point, a little bit of bridging was added here and there at the Greek. It didn’t make much of an impact, but the situation will be improved greatly when we sister all of the floors and do it the right way.

One of our goals at the Greek is to get the bounce out of the floors. Sistering joists and adding bridging will make a big difference. At the end of the day, we decided to completely remove and replace the kitchen and primary suite floors so they will not only be stiff, but flat and closer to level as well.

When we renovated the CLASSIC, it was a full gut. We documented all details and remade every part of the house by hand, with the exception of a few hand carved rosettes and these elliptical stairs. We added a third flight to the cupola, but the first two flights were in good enough shape to preserve and refurbish. So we wrapped them up with good protection until it was time to bring them back to their former glory with some serious tune-up.
