Guilty pleasures of an architect, finding poetic moments in both the deconstructive and constructive phases of a project.
The stones, dirt, and rubble. The nuts and bolts. The layered piping and conduits, like a 3D diagram soon to be hidden. The coat of a worker left on a ladder in what used to be a closet. The window that’s no longer there, yet frames the greenery outside beautifully. The layers of old paint peeling away lived history. The light and spaces imagined once everything is closed up. The friction of structural and building systems demanding quick resolution on site. And even small $$$$ trade marks on the floor marking where the switches go.
I’m so thankful to all the workers, trades, craftspeople, and contractors spruceconstructioninc who bring drawings and projects to life, and to our clients for their trust and collaboration.
Grateful that I can see the beauty in the mess, and that I get to enjoy every facet of this multidisciplinary profession, the technical, the artistic, and the poetic. And, always thankful for big skylights, vaulted ceilings, and beautiful details!
