At Commercial Observer’s South Florida Capital & Development Forum yesterday, Head of Florida Alexis Leal joined Tony Fineman, Dayssi Olarte de Kanavos, Zack Simkins, Andrew Wachtfogel, and David Scharf to discuss how population growth, infrastructure investment, corporate expansion, and lifestyle shifts are reshaping South Florida’s development landscape.

A key takeaway: while labor shortages, access to equity, and permitting challenges continue to add pressure to developments, bringing in all key project stakeholders from the outset allows for goal alignment, which in turn ensures all recommendations, problem-solving, and decisions are made in service of meeting those goals.

Over the past several months, significant progress has been made on the new Pawtucket High School, with structural steel installation, concrete operations, and ongoing site work bringing the building’s framework to life on the historic site. The 370,000-square-foot building, the largest school construction project in Rhode Island’s history, will serve 2,100 students and feature modern classrooms, science and technology labs, arts and music spaces, and comprehensive athletic and wellness facilities.

Executive Vice President Greg Skalaski joined Anne Ellegood, Councilmember Dr. Joni Ricks-Oddie, Angela Minnifield, and Scarlet Peralta at the LAEDC Board of Governors meeting for a discussion on the infrastructure of well-being and how health, arts, place, workforce and investment come together to shape stronger communities and regional economy.

As Greg shared, buildings influence how people experience healthcare, education, culture, community, and more. Thoughtful design and ex*****on can create spaces where people want to gather, strengthening the relationship between an institution and the community around it. Understanding the people surrounding a project is a key piece to the development process—as Greg said, "some of the most successful developments are ones that really take the community's needs into account."

Our team is getting closer to the finish line at Clearline Real Estate's 2000 Wynwood, a 12-story, 380,000 square-foot development in Miami that will provide 310 residential units, including six luxury townhome units.

Located in Wynwood—the walkable, transit-connected corridor known for its art, culture, and nightlife—2000 Wynwood is designed to prioritize wellbeing, rightsizing, and energy efficiency.

The structure of the building includes:
● 22,000 cubic yards of concrete
● 3,000,000 pounds of rebar
● 367,000 pounds of post tension cables
● 164,000 masonry blocks
