Abacus builders Abacus Builders & General Contractors is a Ground Up Development Specialist firm. We specialize in multi-family home building and general contracting.

Mark Little started the company in 2006 and grew it through his strong community roots, building a solid reputation one customer at a time. The Abacus Builders office opened at 190 Old Colony Ave in 2014 allowing us to get to know our customers better through in-person meetings, ensuring a superior service that is exactly what each customer wants. Our mission at Abacus Builders is to provide exceptional construction services to our customers. To continue expanding our company, giving our employee’s the opportunity to advance and grow. And, to remain a community-minded company and an asset to our local area through our continued work with neighborhood groups and organizations such as ONEin3, Harvest of Hope and the Notre Dame Education Center.

Behind the doors of this South End brownstone: four floors of renovation.

Abacus was brought in to completely rework this historic home while preserving the details that make South End architecture so distinctive.

The project included a new chef’s kitchen, 3.5 renovated bathrooms, new HVAC, refinished flooring, custom architectural details, and a roof deck finished with Ipe tiles and a handrail system approved by the Boston Historic Commission.

Inside, original moldings were carefully replicated, while curved walls, hidden doors and modern finishes gave the home an entirely new feel.

The goal wasn’t to erase what was here. It was to make the house work beautifully for the way people live now while keeping the character that belonged to it.

Sometimes the job starts before we get there.

Abacus was brought in to take over this three-level deck and stair project after the original build wasn’t progressing the way the HOA had hoped.

We started with what was there, worked through the existing conditions, and got the project moving in the right direction.

BayState Iron Works handled the new steel posts, while the Abacus demo and carpentry teams completed the rest of the deck system.

The best part? A finished project, a very happy HOA, and genuinely one of the nicest groups of people we’ve had the opportunity to work with.

Sometimes good construction is about building from the ground up. Sometimes it’s about stepping in, solving the problems, and getting the job across the finish line.

A roof deck that earns its square footage.

At 532 E Third Street, Unit 5, the outdoor space was built for more than just the view. There’s room to dine, grill, entertain, and take in the Boston skyline.

It’s just one piece of this six-unit South Boston project, where the details continue inside with custom finishes, smart-home features, herringbone floors, and a seriously impressive kitchen.

We’re just getting started with this one. Follow along , we’ll be sharing more of Unit 5 and the finished details throughout the home soon.

9 Glover Court may look polished in the after photos, but getting there required a lot more than putting up a new building.

This ground-up project in Andrew Square involved extensive site work, structural steel, challenging soil and elevation conditions, tight delivery access, changing fire-code requirements, power-supply engineering, and some serious logistical planning along the way.

The finished development includes seven luxury condominiums with 3+ bedrooms, front and rear decks, city views, elevator access, and heated garage parking with car-stacking systems.

About 14 months from start to finish.

From a vacant South Boston lot to four completely distinct homes.

654 East 7th Street became a four-residence development just a short walk from L Street Beach, with off-street parking, private outdoor space, and high-end finishes throughout.

And these weren’t copy-and-paste units. Each home was designed a little differently, with details including oak flooring, quartz countertops, Bosch appliances, fireplaces, heated bathroom floors, and custom trim.

The project was also featured in Boston Homes, which highlighted the craftsmanship and thoughtful details throughout the building.

A fun one to look back on especially seeing where it started.

You have to make room for the structure before you can start building back.

Work is underway at 1013 Beacon Street, beginning with interior demolition of the basement floor to prepare for new structural footings.

It’s an early stage of the project, but an important one — getting the groundwork right for everything that comes next.

More progress from this one soon.
