Alrighty, well, you can't please everyone when it comes to running a business unfortunately.
I just wanted to make this post, since we can't address the review on our Google business profile - We're still waiting on the profile verification after requesting to change our business name on there from the old "Elite Carports and Steel Buildings" to the new business name "Baker's Carports and Steel Buildings - I figured let's just address it here for now so everyone can at least see that this review is a fraudulent review.
Mr. Palmer ordered a carport cover with us. We had his order processed, the materials produced and the order scheduled for install. Unfortunately there were a few delays with our metal supplier and a few other incidents that were out of our hands - 3rd party business issues that impacted the lead times. Mr. Palmer didn't mention that issue so I at least wanted to mention it on his behalf - We're honest and transparent here at Baker's Carports and Steel Buildings, he did experience delays on his install - which do happen from time to time unfortunately.
Anyhow, Mr. Palmer decided, once the installers arrived on-site, that he wanted the structure to psychically touch his home. That detail was never mentioned to anyone prior to the installers arriving (In fact I initially told him that "the structure would be butted up close to the home"). Had Mr. Palmer mentioned that detail to ANYONE, someone would have informed him that we do not offer to install our structures where they touch the face/roof/body of a home for liability reasons. These taller structures tend to slightly sway in the wind, which if the structure was touching the face of the home would have caused damage. Then, based off of how Mr. Palmer carries himself, I'm willing to bet that he would have tried to come after us for "damage claims". We do not allow installs to touch homes, unless it's a free-standing lean to that is butted up to the side eave of a home, where the flat roof will sit flush with the flat eave/soffit of the home.
Back to the defense of this fraudulent review. Mr. Palmer ordered the wrong size structure, resulting in the structure being too long to fit on his property. I had even asked him about that before we ordered, whether we needed to go with a 19' long frame/20' long roof line or the standard 20' long frame/21' long roof line. He said there would be plenty of space and to stick with the 20'/21' design. We proceeded.
Install day arrives, low and behold, the structure was too long. Our guys modified the frame, cut it and rewelded the leg sleeves on site - which is an additional fee any other time but it was done free of charge to help this client get his structure installed.
The guys erected the structure and under Mr. Palmer's watchful eye he said "No, I want it to touch the home". The installers informed him that they had it as close as they could (Yes, unfortunately they failed to mention that it was as close as SAFELY possible - but they did inform him that it was as close as possible). he demanded that it be moved closer, so the guys moved it a few inches more towards the home - still not touching it (You can see in the pictures below how close they ended up having it, it was about 3" away from the home). After they moved the structure again the installers attempted to speak with Mr. Palmer about the final approval of the location and the install balance payment, at which point he opened the door, was asked to look at the new location and he closed the door in the installers face.
The installers contacted the main office, informed them of what was going on and were told to pack it up. They couldn't sit there and wait for someone who wasn't speaking with them, they had other installs on their route they needed to get to. So Mr. Palmer called me.. He said "They're leaving, but I'll approve the location now if they can continue completing the install". I asked him to put me on speaker phone to talk with the installers, they said that the office manager had told them they needed to pack up and leave, that if they were going to complete the install they would need to hear it from the manager of the office. I called the main office immediately, spoke with the office manager and informed him that Mr. Palmer told me that he'd accept that new location, the office manager put me on hold to contact the install crew to tell them to complete the install.. Bam, they had dismantled the whole structure and had it loaded up. They would not be able to perform the install that day as everything was already re-loaded and I think part of the material was damaged when it was being dismantled? But, we were willing to re-schedule the install for Mr. Palmer after we re-produced the damaged material and had the chance to get him back on the schedule. He said no, send me my money back (referring to his deposit). That's not how this works unfortunately, he chose to order a structure, we got the structure partially installed and he didn't want it because it wasn't "done his way" - even though his way would have damaged the side of his home eventually.
Mr. Palmer's actions are the cause of the structure not being installed, our guys were as accommodating as possible, even modifying the frame for free on site. Baker's Carports and Steel Buildings isn't a scam company, I work hard for my clients and I don't appreciate false reviews like this.
The first picture shows how the structure was too long and couldn't even be stood up correctly without hitting the home, which Mr. Palmer explicitly stated there was "plenty of room".
