A large part of me did not want to start Skeeter Defeater back up this summer, due to a reticence in regards to introducing dangerous, potentially carcinogenic substances into the local ecosystem. I have always valued nature, and as lucrative as it is to simply load up a blower and get to spraying, there are guilt and anxiety that accumulate with each treatment.
However, recent studies into mycology (the study of fungi) for another project that will be revealed within the coming months has also revealed the potential for an all-natural, non invasive, fungus based entomopathogen that could potentially be used to specifically target mosquitoes while more efficiently sparing friendly insects like butterflies and bees.
As mosquitoes prepare to return to the waking world, I will be testing the effectiveness of said fungal adulticide. If my studies prove correct, we could be one step closer to eliminating the collateral damage caused by pesticides, and advancing the oldest and deadliest war ever fought by our species.
