Here's a before and a couple after photos of a recent deck replacement. The original deck had begun to deteriorate, and had become too dangerous to use, requiring a complete teardown and rebuild. The new deck utilizes composite materials to reduce maintenance and increase the lifespan of the new deck, while the metal railings improve the appearance as well as increase lifespan. On top of everything else, we were able to increase the size of the deck, making it much more usable as an entertaining area for the whole family.

Looking to replace an old toilet? There are a couple important things to keep in mind when picking out a new one. Most importantly, measure the space and make sure that the new toilet will fit! The critical measurement is from the wall behind the toilet to the center of the bolts holding it down, known as the rough in size. These are typically 10, 12, or 14 inches. You need to make sure this is the same on both toilets, because it will allow the tank to sit just in front of the wall. Don't measure to any trim that may be present, but go directly from the wall.

Then, consider whether you want an elongated or round bowl. Make sure you have adequate space (especially with elongated bowls, which make the overall toilet much longer).

Finally, you can take into consideration the height of the toilet (standard is usually between 17 and 19 inches tall). A slightly higher stool may be easier to use, especially for someone with mobility issues.

Most toilets come with replacement hardware and a new wax ring. Make sure that yours does, or pick up a kit (these are very inexpensive). You may very well need a new supply line, and its length will depend on the position of your wall valve relative to the tank height of the new toilet.

A sunny day sure makes a big difference! While it isn't the easiest time of year to paint outside, it's amazing the temperature difference between the shade and the direct sunlight, as you can see from the 50-degree difference in two adjacent walls. If you're careful and patient, you can still find good days for painting even in December in Missouri!
