I have been worried about fireplaces in High Performance homes for some time as they don’t operate well. As he points out they require make up air but even that doesn’t seem to work great or effectively.

I wish someone would figure this out for those of us that love wood fires and high performance homes!

Fireplace building science is a way of looking at how best to use a fireplace if you want good IAQ and low heating costs.
