Winner of a 2026 World Landscape Architecture Award, The Park at Expo Idaho continues to stand out as one of our all-time favorites. Working among a team of notable collaborators, we’ve spent the last three years tackling ambitious ideas and problem-solving to find buildable solutions.

The WLA award named The Park the winner in the category, “Excellence in the Concept | Public Space Design.” Located along the Boise River, the project is transforming the former horse racing site into a vibrant community destination centered around recreation, nature, and connection.

With the park set to open on October 23, we’re excited to finally share this project with our community, and so grateful for the team that made it possible!

Team lunches keep getting bigger!

Plan North has been growing this summer, and we’re excited to welcome outstanding talent across all experience levels. Mercy joins us after earning her master’s degree from Boise State University, Aaron has joined our drafting team, and Luke has joined our licensed PE team.

We’re looking forward to what’s ahead and grateful to have them on board. Stay tuned for more of their great work!

Kicking off the weekend with our annual Plan North Summer Float & BBQ! It was fun to bring a Boise classic to members of our office who had never floated the river before.

Connecting with our team on a personal level is a huge priority, and one of the best perks of being a smaller firm. (We were just chatting today about how much we love our weekly team lunches, which happen every single Friday!)

We look forward to many more summer adventures. If you have another idea we should consider for a group outing, drop it in the comments!

Meet Lyndsey, our newest structural engineering intern!

Lyndsey recently completed her junior year at Boise State and has jumped right in, translating classroom concepts into real-world design as she gains hands-on experience working on our component projects.

Outside of work, she’s an avid reader who enjoys spending time with friends and family. She also has a creative hobby: pressing and framing flowers (a unique activity she discovered in botany class!).

We’re excited to have Lyndsey on the Plan North team and look forward to supporting her as she continues to grow her engineering skills!

Bowling at Emerald Lanes is a team favorite for laughs and a little friendly competition! At Plan North, we care about doing meaningful work with people we genuinely enjoy. Construction by CM Company, Inc. is really shaping up at The Park at Expo Idaho! Be sure to take a look if you’re walking the Greenbelt, attending an event at the fairgrounds, or cheering on AC Boise at the nearby soccer stadium!

We’re honored to be providing structural engineering throughout the site (on everything from buildings to the play structure foundations) for this amazing community amenity designed by our friends at PORT for Ada County, Idaho.

Project #1! Plan North’s very first project set the stage for the work we’ve done ever since: maintaining client vision through the development of innovative engineering solutions under complex constraints.

Located just south of San Francisco, this hillside residence required an engineering response shaped by the site itself. Poor soils, steep grades, and some of the highest seismic demands in the country led to our design of a unique rigid grid foundation system bearing into weathered bedrock. The result was a stable base for both the modular and site-built portions of the home.

The sloped site became part of the architectural solution: a daylit basement anchors the residence into the hillside, while the upper floor opens to natural light and views through the trees.

In many ways, this project still reflects what drives Plan North today: solving complex problems through intentional coordination, technical rigor, and engineering solutions developed in service of the client’s vision.
