As the academic year wraps up, we’re reflecting on the first year of student life at Boise State’s Syringa Hall.

Designed to support first-year student success, the project responds to a key challenge: creating a living environment that fosters connection, eases the transition to campus life, and integrates seamlessly with its surroundings.

Syringa Hall addresses this through a combination of modern amenities, thoughtfully designed community spaces, and shared lounges—many with sweeping views—along with direct access to the Boise River and Greenbelt. Together, these elements create opportunities for both connection and relaxation.

Over the past year, more than 400 first-year students have called Syringa Hall home. The project demonstrates how thoughtful student housing design can enhance the campus experience while supporting long-term institutional goals—and we’re thrilled to see it pay off.

There’s been a lot to celebrate about the CWI River District Campus project recently!

In early April, CWI hosted a beam signing event where they announced that the new academic building will be named the Micron Academic Center, made possible by a generous donation from Micron Technology, Inc.

Then on May 1, we gathered again to celebrate another milestone: the topping out ceremony, which marks the placement of the final structural beam.

It’s exciting to see this project take shape, and we look forward to watching it come to life!

In the last four years, Kristen has brought her design skills and eye for detail to a wide range of projects, playing a key role in shaping thoughtful, functional interiors. She has been especially instrumental on our St. Luke’s Downtown Campus project—a long-term effort that will have a lasting impact on the Treasure Valley community.

Higher education campuses are constantly evolving, and a strong master plan gives institutions a flexible roadmap for growth.

At Hummel, we work with colleges and universities to solve complex space allocation challenges, establish frameworks for facilities that support Idaho’s future workforce, and create opportunities for connection and community impact.

Our work planning Idaho State University’s Health Sciences Campus in Meridian, Idaho shows this process in action. Working with campus leaders and community stakeholders, we helped set priorities for the campus’s future. This roadmap will allow Meridian to grow as a center for healthcare education while continuing to support the student experience.

The result is an adaptable plan that will guide future expansion, support workforce development, and expand opportunities for healthcare education across Idaho.
