Do you know the difference between Ice Melt vs Salt?

If salt is needed for safety then definitely use it but you to understand the damage it can do also. I did snow/ice removal for 20+ years. I retired my shovel, spreader, and plow five years ago. I worked every storm over those 20+ years that came through the upstate.

It seems like everyone is in the snow/ice business now. They're buying up all the pool salt and any other form of salt they can find. Most had probably never put out a bag of ice melt before this week's ice storm. Just because they have a spreader, truck, and a buddy that has a skid steer doesn't mean they know what they are doing.

Things to consider before hiring someone for snow/ice removal:
1) Do they have insurance that covers snow removal in case someone falls or damage is done to your property?
2) Have a clear understanding what salt can do to your concrete and landscape. I have seen entire landscape areas killed because salt was being used instead of the proper ice melt.

A professional goes into the winter prepared to handle any snow event. Be cautious of the ones on Facebook looking for customers and searching for supplies because now they’re all of a sudden in the "snow removal business."
