‼️Upstate South Carolina Friends... I need your help‼️ I got all my tomato containers planted yesterday. Except one. Kelloggs Breakfast is my favorite kind of tomato. It is on my always list when I garden plan so I have saved a spot for one. I have been looking high and low for a Kelloggs Breakfast plant. Farmers markets. Plant sales. Even big box stores. I can’t find one anywhere. Does anybody have an extra?

Got my hands in some dirt today. God I have missed that feeling the past 9 months. I got an planter put up today. The plan is lettuce and strawberries in here to start. Got some bare root strawberries to go in this week and then lots of colorful lettuce seeds to plant.

Hey friends… so it’s been awhile. I promise I’m alive and well. My family is safely settled in South Carolina. I sincerely appreciate all the comments and messages. I miss all of you dearly too! Long story short, my plan to move and get a garden set up right away didn’t go according to plan. The logistics of a cross country move in addition to a massive career change were too much. Add that I can’t look at photos of my garden back home without getting a knot in my chest. I still can’t breathe thinking too much about what I left behind. I filmed a whole last garden tour and can’t even watch it without crying. So to give myself a break from feeling that hurt, I took a break from all of my platforms. But spring is coming soon. With that comes rebirth. Newness and a fresh start. There’s been a garden sized hole in my heart and the journey to healing starts this spring. I hope you’ll join me.

Diatomaceous earth is a go to in my garden. It’s an organic pest control measure that works on hard bodied pests like squash bugs and beetles. It doesn’t do a thing for any kind of worm, caterpillars or slugs but for those hard bodied pests, it’s very effective.

It works as long as it stays dry for you if you get rain or a beach dew, you’ll need to reapply. I also don’t apply to any flowers or blossoms to limit its impact on pollinators.

Bonus tip… save that Parmesan cheese shaker and give it a new life in the garden. It works great for applying DE!

When you’re making pickles, you may see them to recommend cutting off the blossom end. This is what that referring to. It’s the end of the cucumber that had the flower on it. After the blossom drops, this will leave more of a rough dot versus a smooth dot like the stem end.

The blossom end contains an enzyme that will cause your pickles to become soft. You need to cut at least 1/16 of an inch off that end of the cucumber before pickling to make sure you end up with crisp, crunchy pickles!
