This month is National Su***de Prevention Month, and yesterday our Safety Manager, Wendell Hanley, led a conversation with our team about a part of safety that can be much harder to see.
In the roofing and construction industry, we spend a lot of time talking about jobsite safety. We train, wear the right equipment and look out for one another in the field. But looking out for our people has to go beyond physical safety.
Mental health and su***de aren’t always easy things to talk about, especially in an industry where people are used to pushing through hard days and getting the job done. That’s exactly why these conversations matter. Knowing what to look for, knowing how to check in on someone and making it okay to speak up can make a difference.
Thank you, Wendell, for taking the time to lead this conversation with our team. At BDI, safety is about making sure our people go home at the end of the day, and making sure they know they don’t have to carry the hard things alone.
