Roof valleys and hip seams are prime targets for wind shear. When strong gusts sweep over your roof, they can catch the edges of shingles along valleys and tear them clear off down to the underlayment.
In this photo, you can see where wind stripped a major section, leaving cap nails and underlayment exposed. If left unaddressed, the next rainfall will send water straight into the home's framing.
Post-storm checklist:
✅ Look for missing shingle sections in valleys and ridges
✅ Watch for dark or exposed underlayment patches
✅ Check for loose shingle debris in your yard or gutters
