I have quite a fascinating DNA connection to New York City. An island; the Isle of Manhattan was first called New Amsterdam under the 17th century Dutch settlers .
The Vreeland family came from Holland in the 1630s to New Amsterdam. Much of the family settled in Bergen county New Jersey.
I'm related to Michael Vreeland who fought in the American Revolutionary War as a minute man and fought in the battles of Princeton and Trenton.
Fascinatingly, I was born in New York City in New York hospital, Even though neither one of my parents were from the area. Something in the universe continuously reunites me with New York City. At fourteen, I started a new school close to NYC, even after living over 4,000 mi away in different countries for several years prior.
I love history, architectural history, and all kinds of buildings. I'm an Architect and so very thankful everyday that I get to do what I love to do for the built environment and for people. Always working on improving people's lives through attractive and sensible Architecture and Furniture.
This past week I was inspired to create a portfolio of upper East Side Townhouses in Manhattan. I have lived in pre-war buildings in Manhattan as a baby and toddler, but never visited inside a townhouse on the Upper East Side. Or never visited any of the beautiful brownstone townhouses in Brooklyn either. However, I have walked the tree lined Townhouse streets in summer and fall and they are magnificent. They are captured here in this portfolio; and as always, I include different interior images as well.
