44 years ago, Caulfield & Wheeler started out in South Florida. Today, we’re celebrating those many years of engineering, surveying, and UAS work that have helped shape the communities we call home. 🎉

Caulfield & Wheeler is looking forward to being a Gold Sponsor of GIS Mela 2026 at Florida Atlantic University! 🌎

On World GIS Day, Tuesday, November 17 (9 a.m. – 3 p.m., FAU Student Union, Boca Raton), the FAU student chapters of ASPRS, FSMS, and FWEA are hosting a free, one-day festival of data, maps, users, and tools. The event is open to all majors, and no GIS experience is required. ASPRS - Florida Atlantic University Student Chapter, FAU College of Engineering and Computer Science,

Our Special Projects & UAS Operations team will be there with a hands-on table and a live demo. We’ll show how surveying, drone mapping, and geospatial data come together on real engineering and survey projects. Stop by to talk careers, see the equipment up close, and ask us anything.

The day also marks the public launch of CWR³ Data, a flood data and modeling platform from FAU’s Center for Water Resiliency & Risk Reduction. We’re excited to see it in action.

Thank you to the ASPRS, FSMS, and FWEA student chapters for putting this together. Supporting the next generation of surveyors, GIS analysts, and water engineers is something we care about. See you on the 17th!

Did you know it’s Earth Science Week? As part of this week’s focus on STEM, today is Earth Observation Day, which highlights the remote sensing technology that helps us observe, understand, and learn more about our planet.

Aerial imagery and drone technology offer a fresh perspective of Earth, turning views from above into valuable geospatial insights. CWI’s UAS teams use LiDAR and other advanced remote sensing tools to capture detailed information and reveal patterns that might otherwise go unnoticed.

From high-resolution imagery to data-driven discoveries, Earth observation helps us see more and uncover new insights about the world around us.

Before construction or improvements begin, it’s important to understand the site. CWI has supported park projects for municipalities across South Florida by providing the detailed site information needed for better planning. From traditional surveying and aerial photogrammetry to LiDAR and 3D laser scanning, we use the right tools to get a clear picture of what’s there. Better data leads to smarter planning and helps create park spaces that serve our communities.

Preserving History, One Connection at a Time: Caulfield & Wheeler is proud to support the Historic Boca Train Station at 747 S. Dixie Highway, one of Boca Raton's most treasured landmarks.

A little history: Henry Flagler's Florida East Coast Railway first reached Boca Raton in 1895, helping the community take root and grow. In the 1920s, architect and developer Addison Mizner gave Boca Raton its signature Mediterranean character. Clarence Geist later carried that vision forward, building a new passenger depot on the FEC line to welcome guests of the exclusive Boca Raton Club.

That depot opened in 1930. Designed by Chester G. Henninger in the Mediterranean Revival style, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places on October 24, 1980. Today, the site showcases two beautifully restored 1947 Seaboard Air Line streamlined rail cars built by the Budd Company, a dining car and a lounge car, along with a 1946 Atlantic Coast Line caboose and a 1930 Baldwin steam switch engine.

Our role: We're helping bring fresh water and modern utility service to the station's historic dining and lounge cars, so these classic railcars can keep welcoming visitors and the community for generations to come.

Engineering:
• Thoughtful water & sewer utility design that respects the character of the historic site
• Coordination and approvals with the City of Boca Raton and Palm Beach County
• On-site oversight and quality assurance to make sure every connection is done right

Surveying:
• Detailed site survey to guide the design
• Precise layout so new service lines fit seamlessly around the historic cars
• Accurate record surveys documenting the completed work for the future

It's a privilege to help preserve nearly a century of railroad heritage right here in our hometown.
