The soil under your lawn might be part of the problem. Much of Loudoun and Clarke County sits on heavy clay. Clay holds water tightly, sometimes too tightly for grass roots to use it easily, and it tends to crust over and compact during dry spells. That's why a lawn on clay can show heat stress even when rainfall and watering look reasonable on paper.
