Plant some new grass this spring?
Now is the most important time to water. It only takes 1-2 days of extreme temps and no water for it to die off. Once new grass browns out, it will not come back!

Ascochyta leaf blight!

We are seeing this pop up everywhere. Temperature and moisture swings are the main culprits of this disease as well as mowing practices. As bad as it looks, it will grow out without lasting effects in a couple weeks.

Annual Fall Best Practices post- water you lawn and mulch your leaves!

Your lawn should go into winter dormancy well watered and thriving. Just like humans, we don't like to go to bed hungry or thirsty.

Mulching leaves is super beneficial for the soil, if you can mulch without smothering the lawn, do it. Even if that means running over the lawn a couple times a week. It also has the benefit of being MUCH easier then raking or blowing into piles.

Our M.I.L.O.W (most impressive lawn of the week)

Each week our technicians can take pictures of their lawns that they feel are impressive. That could be a distinct difference from the neighbor (w**ds, crabgrass etc) Awesome color, or anything that they deem impressive!

This week goes to Jake- A neighboring lawn full of foxtail with a hard line where ours starts (and has none!) Nice Jake!

PSA- If you seeded this spring, don't forget to water DURING the day.

This is new grass, all it took is 1 day to fry out. It gets watered Am and PM, but not during the heat of the day at all. Those brown areas aren't coming back!

Lawn look dead in spots from the last few weeks? Straw or almost orange in color?

Drastic changes in temps and moisture is causing a TON of Ascochyta Leaf Blight recently. No need to worry, water and mow properly, it will come back!

Ascochyta leaf blight cause large irregular patches of turf to quickly turn straw-brown in color and appear dead.  From a distance, the symptoms resemble drought stress. The difference is that the symptoms of Ascochyta may appear quickly or overnight.  Infected leaves present a bleached tip dieba...

NOT GRUBS!

While there is a HUGE issue with grubs in many areas, it's not always the case.
We had a customer call, pretty hot, saying their lawn had grubs. She had the city of Richfield as well as her mower tell her she had grubs. According to them, they "checked" and found them. We have done our grub application for her the last 3 years. This is a picture of her lawn.

We checked, on our hands and knees, extensively for anything that even resembled grub damage (heads up, this picture of said customrer does NOT resemble grub damage at all, grub damage is a large (2-3ft +)bare or brown spot, NOT brown speckled throughout the lawn like shown).

No grubs, not a single piece of turf that was able to easily pull up. A big relief.

Moral of the story- not everything is grubs! Just because someone says you have grubs due to brown areas, you need to actually check and pull on those areas to find them!
