🌦️ Important Pool Liner Installation Update 🌦️
Pool liners require moderate temperatures in order to properly stretch, seat, and fit correctly inside your pool. When temperatures are too cold, liners become stiff and tend to slide across the pool floor instead of gripping and forming properly. This makes installations significantly more difficult, more labour intensive, and can affect the quality of the finished product.
The biggest challenge with inground liner replacement is the combination of:
* Rapid spring temperature swings
* Heavy rain and groundwater
* Cool nights even after warm days
* Stable 70–85°F daytime temps consistently are required.
1. Watch Overnight Temperatures
(Even if daytime temps are 75–80°F)
*45–55°F nights can stiffen the liner again
It’s important to NOT
* Leave the liner partially installed overnight
* Pause filling halfway through
2. Groundwater Is a Bigger Risk Than Most People Think!
Central Illinois clay soils hold water.
After heavy rain:
* Water pressure behind the pool wall can float the liner
* Vermiculite bottoms can soften or wash out
Best practice:
* Wait 1–3 dry days after significant rain before draining/installing
* Check any sump line or hydrostatic relief setup before draining
