Years ago, roofers would apply hot asphalt (tar) and felt paper using tar mops. It was messy, labor-intensive, and incredibly hot work.

Today, synthetic underlayment is lighter, stronger, more tear-resistant, and provides better protection during installation.

💨 MISHAP MONDAY: Gone With the Wind! 💨

If there’s one thing North Dakota has no shortage of, it’s WIND! And when those winds start lifting or blowing shingles off your roof, it’s definitely not something you want to ignore.

One missing shingle can expose your roof to moisture and leave the surrounding shingles more vulnerable. Before you know it, you can have a domino effect of additional damage.

🏠 The roof featured in today’s Mishap Monday started with blown-off shingles, but after a closer inspection, we also discovered hail damage. In this case, the homeowner’s insurance claim resulted in a full roof replacement.

🔨 Throwback Thursday: Before the Nail Gun

Before pneumatic nail guns became the industry standard, every shingle on a roof was installed one nail at a time with a hammer.

A skilled roofer could swing thousands of nails in a single day, and accuracy mattered just as much then as it does now. While modern nail guns have made installation faster and more efficient, quality roofing still comes down to craftsmanship, attention to detail, and pride in the finished product.

Anyone remember seeing roofers with a hammer hanging from their belt instead of an air hose?

🌸 A Little Summer Pause 🌸

We're taking a break from Mishap Monday today.

Summer has a way of reminding us to slow down and notice the little things. Almost every day when I walk out to get the mail at the All Seasons Roofing shop, I find one of these beautiful butterflies enjoying our flowers. It never gets old.

As August rolls on, it's a gentle reminder that summer is slipping away a little faster than we'd like. Before long, we'll be talking about fall colors, cooler mornings, and the next season ahead.

For now, though, we're choosing to enjoy the sunshine, the flowers, and the simple moments that make us smile.

These butterflies certainly make me happy. 🦋
