Peggy & Chris Ball gave us a 5 star review on Google: "The Pet Stop system is perfect for our 4 dogs, 2 littles and 2 large. It keeps them contained in our yard and the small zones pieces we have added to keep them from small areas works like a charm."

The leading reason a dog gets through a working fence is a collar that has worked loose. The dead battery everybody assumes it is runs a distant second.

A loose collar means the contact posts are not reaching skin. The dog hears the warning beep, nothing follows it, and a smart dog works that out in about a week.

Two fingers snug under the strap, worn high on the neck, and rotate it a quarter turn every day or two so the same spot is not under pressure all the time.

One other thing worth knowing. If your dog crosses the boundary once, tell us that day. Most people wait to see whether it happens again. A first breach is usually the first visible sign of something that has been going on quietly for a while.

This is Crockett, a white Lab in Mountain Brook whose family has been with us since the late 1990s.

Watch him walk up to the flag, hear the warning beep, and back away on his own. No correction. Just the beep and a good decision.

That half second of warning is the part people miss when they compare systems. The dog gets a chance to make the call himself, and most of them learn the boundary within days.

Training is the key, and we've trained thousands of dogs using our low-stress method. Check it out here: https://dogfenceal.com/training/

Six wire breaks from the last few years. Every one of them is a real call.

⚙️ A twelve year old line, found and repaired in about ten minutes.
⚙️ A neighbor's weed-eater, at an edge where the wire ran close to the surface.
⚙️ A twenty year old line, cut when the junipers above it came out.
⚙️ AT&T, twice, same yard, two separate visits.
⚙️ A lightning strike.
⚙️ Construction that tore up the street at the front of the property.

None of them needed a new fence. Wire that gets left alone tends to last a very long time, and we have repaired lines twenty years old and older. It is almost always something else digging.

Most service calls happen while you are at work, so the technician photographs what he finds and writes up what he did. You get to see the cause even though you were not standing there, and when somebody else put a shovel through your wire, you have what you need to ask them to pay for it.

A dog fence is three parts, and in most yards they each run about a third of the cost. The collar, the box in the garage, and the wire in the ground.

That is worth knowing, because a fence almost never fails all at once. One of the three goes, and that is the one you fix.

The collar is the most common call we get and the cheapest to solve. A transmitter alarm usually means a break in the loop rather than a dead transmitter. The wire is durable and does not normally wear out for many years. It fails when something cuts it, and a single cut anywhere in the loop takes the whole fence down until it is fixed. That is a locating job, not a digging job. We trace the loop, mark the spot, and repair it. The rest of the wire stays where it is.

We have installed more of these systems around Birmingham than anybody else, so most of what we service is our own work. We take plenty of calls on other brands too. Locating a break does not require knowing who put it in.
