🪳 Seeing More Roaches Around Your Birmingham Home? The Summer Heat May Be Part of the Reason.
During the hot, humid Alabama summer, homeowners throughout Birmingham, Hoover, Vestavia Hills, Mountain Brook, Bessemer, McCalla, Pelham and surrounding areas may notice an increase in roach activity around their homes.
But seeing a roach doesn’t always mean your house is dirty.
Cockroaches are constantly looking for three things: water, food and shelter. During periods of heat and changing weather, they may move closer to homes where those resources are easier to find.
A few areas we commonly recommend homeowners check:
• Leaking outdoor faucets and plumbing
• Damp mulch or heavy leaf litter against the foundation
• Gutters and downspouts holding moisture
• Pet food left outside
• Garbage cans near the home
• Cracks and gaps around doors, pipes and utility penetrations
• Excess moisture in crawlspaces or around the foundation
And here’s something important: not every roach should be treated the same way.
Large outdoor species that occasionally wander inside are a very different problem from German cockroaches, which can establish populations indoors and usually require a much more targeted treatment approach.
That’s why good pest control starts with identifying what pest you actually have and why it’s there — not simply spraying everything in sight.
At Alabama Termite & Pest Services, we provide professional pest control throughout the Birmingham area with an emphasis on inspection, prevention and long-term control.
