I think about all you did for us, all you gave us, and all the ways you showed up for us over the years. Thank you for loving us, looking out for us, and sometimes just loving us anyway.

You’re missed more than words can really say, but we’re grateful for the memories, the lessons, and everything you left with us.

👷‍♂️BUILDING STRONG MINDS. SHAPING FUTURE LEADERS.💪

This was more than a speaking engagement—it was a moment that mattered.

At Mount Hebron Baptist Church, I had the opportunity to speak with young men at the Spring Training Youth Empower-Meant Camp 2026 and more importantly, to connect with them where they are right now.

One message kept coming up throughout the conversation:

Discipline and self-control don’t just build structures… they build you.

After 30 years in Birmingham, one thing I know for sure consistency, discipline, and focus will take you further than anything else. Not overnight, but over time.

As President of the Black Contractors Association Alabama Chapter, I try to keep the message simple:

We’re not just building projects we’re building people.
We’re creating real opportunities for the future.

That’s something we’ve believed at Syms Contractors for over three decades and it’s something we work to live out every day.

I appreciate SMART Choices Youth Empowerment Program for the work they’re doing and for creating space for conversations like this. It matters more than people think.

Because if we reach them early and reach them the right way we can change what comes next.
