It is officially the fall season! As of this week, subtle changes are beginning to emerge across the landscape.
Beautyberry, goldenrod, and other late-season blooms bring new color, while grasses begin to send up their plumes and trees slowly transition from green to the warm tones of
autumn. Together, these plants create a changing palette of color, texture, and movement.
These seasonal cues are a reminder of the dynamic landscapes we design with, and the beauty found in observing how they change throughout the year. Included in this post are
images from Library in the Forest and Hilltop Montessori showing off some of the best parts to come with fall.

Project Spotlight!
The Liam is situated in the beautiful Hays Farm community in Huntsville, AL and was completed in 2024. RULD was tasked with the design of the pool and courtyard areas: delivering outdoor spaces that encourage relaxation, connection, and enjoyment that align with the Liam’s message. These amenity spaces were carefully designed to extend the living experience beyond the building itself. The project reinforces The Liam’s commitment to creating a vibrant and elevated residential community.

Staff Spotlight!
Meet Tony Renta, President and Owner of Renta Urban Land Design! With 27 years of experience in the landscape architecture profession and nearly 15 years of RULD, Tony brings a wealth of knowledge, creativity, and dedication to
every project. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Environmental Design and master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from Auburn University and is an active member of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), where he previously served as President from 2009–2011.
Known for his thoughtful design work, attention to detail, and outgoing personality, Tony is passionate about putting his best work forward and creating spaces that make an impact. His commitment to leadership extends beyond the office as well, Tony has served as a Scout leader and also enjoys bringing people together through Renta’s annual Christmas in July celebration, which he started as an opportunity to connect
with clients and others throughout the industry.
Outside of work, Tony enjoys spending time with his wife and three kids, as well as fishing and golfing. We’re grateful for the experience, energy, and personality he brings to Renta and are excited to celebrate the person behind the work!

Project Spotlight!
Thoughtful landscape architecture creates spaces that do more than look beautiful. At Pinnacle Park, a 4 acre water retention and water quality facility was transformed into a
community destination featuring a stocked fishing pond, a 40 foot waterfall, fountains, accessible walking paths, a fishing pier, and gathering spaces.
Renta Urban Land Design provided the planning, grading, and ADA accessibility design, helping create a park that balances environmental performance with memorable user experiences. As we approach our 15-year anniversary, we look back at Pinnacle Park as one of our first major projects. It is a part of the projects that ‘made us’ as a company.

Firm Spotlight!
For the month of September, we are highlighting our work with 5th Dimension Architecture and Interiors. We have worked collaboratively on various multi-family residential projects
across Alabama and other neighboring states, as well as their office in Avondale, AL. RULD completed the pool, hardscape, and landscape of the Folksong Apartments in Flowery Branch, GA, and then the landscape to enhance the outside of 5D’s main office in Avondale, AL!

Project Spotlight!
Located in the heart of downtown Birmingham, Artisan Flats, brings a contemporary residential experience to an evolving urban district. The landscape design was thoughtfully
developed to complement the architecture while creating inviting outdoor spaces that connect residents to the surrounding city.
Our team designed the landscape, hardscape, and pool layout for the project, helping by # shape the site’s outdoor experience from circulation and gathering spaces to the details
that tie the development together. The project began in 2020 and was brought to completion in 2023 through collaboration with Fifth Dimension Architecture + Interiors LLC, Caprine Planning + Civil Engineering + Consulting, Ardd+Winter Lighting Manufacturer Representatives, and Cooper Lighting Solutions.
We’re proud to have contributed to another project that adds to the continued growth and vibrancy of downtown Birmingham.

Last week RULD was invited by Landscape Forms to tour their headquarters in Kalamazoo, Michigan! Tony had the very best time learning and seeing what they were working on currently and upcoming. A huge thanks to them and to SESCO Lighting - Alabama for sponsoring the trip!

Project Spotlight!
Yesterday we took a trip to Florence to check in on Bank Independent Headquarters! Our wildflower mix is doing well, while we were also checking each of the different sections of the site. We love to see a project come to life even after completion.

Staff Spotlight!
Alejandra Restrepo has been at RULD for a little over one year now! She is a landscape designer drawn to the balance of hardscape and landscape, shaping environments that feel cohesive and inviting. Alejandra earned her bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Universidad de Los Andes in Colombia and her master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from Auburn University. Outside of work, she enjoys live music, cooking, baking, and road trips with friends.

Project Spotlight!
Recently, we went to visit one of our older projects: The Eagle Scout Monument! This project has been renovated several times and Renta has been a part of it each time. The original monument wall is a granite construction, engraved with the name of each Eagle Scout in Alabama starting with the first in 1918. Renta provided master planning, grading and drainage planning, hardscape, and landscape. A rewarding challenge for RULD was also making the entire plan and amphitheater ADA Accessible!
