Today we are revisiting this iconic 1927 Redmont Park residence perched atop Red Mountain with sweeping views of Downtown Birmingham. This historic home was thoughtfully renovated to enhance views, modernize living spaces, and strengthen its connection to the pool, gardens, and landscape, all while respecting its architectural heritage. A quintessential blend of history, preservation, and contemporary design that we absolutely adore!

We’re excited to welcome Spencer Weddle to the NEQ team. A recent graduate of Samford University, Spencer has already brought fresh perspectives, enthusiasm, and thoughtful ideas to the office in his first two days. We asked him a few questions so everyone can get to know him a little better, and here are his answers:

1. If anyone could play you in your life movie, which actor would you choose?

I would have to choose Matthew McConaughey for his work in Interstellar and, of course… “Alright, alright, alright.”

2. What are you looking forward to the most about working at Nequette?

Working collaboratively within a tight-knit team and learning new methodologies for both the design and production of architecture.

3. What is the one book you could read on repeat?

I don’t read as much as I should, but one book that deserves repetition would be “Why Architecture Matters” by Paul Goldberger. For me, this book consistently reinforces the responsibilities we have as designers to be good stewards of our built environment.

4. What is your favorite trip you have ever been on?

One of my friends from architecture school and I traveled to Tanzania and summited Mount Kilimanjaro. This adventure was certainly the most difficult, yet incredible thing I’ve ever attempted.

5. What would be your idea of the perfect birthday celebration?

A simple remote cabin on a lake with my closest friends, just hanging out, playing music, and fishing.

Welcome, Spencer! We are looking forward to having you on our team!

Context-sensitive design can increase property values by 10–20% in high-character markets.

Some places resist generic solutions.

Cashiers is one of them.

Strong identity.
Distinct character.
High expectations for what belongs and what doesn’t.

In environments like this, standard approaches fall apart quickly.

What if you did this instead?

Let the place lead the design.

• Respond to scale, material, and rhythm of the context
• Balance efficiency with authenticity
• Create something that feels inevitable - not imposed

At Cashiers, success wasn’t about introducing something new. It was about building something that felt like it had always been there.

Because in the most valuable places, belonging is what drives acceptance and value.

With summer on the horizon, we’re daydreaming about salty breezes, sun-soaked afternoons, and charming walkable coastal towns. Today, we’re revisiting one of our favorites: Seaside, Florida.

Take a step back in time with this beautiful view of The Seaside Lyceum Building, a landmark on Seaside’s Town Square brought to life through a remarkable collaborative effort led by architect and urban designer Daniel Solomon.

Every detail, from the thoughtfully crafted architecture to the sweeping canopy of towering crowned palms, captures the distinctive beauty and timeless spirit of Seaside.

Entitlement delays can add 12–24 months and millions in carrying costs to a project.

Every complex project reaches a moment.

The vision is clear.
The investment is real.
But approval is uncertain.

Multiple stakeholders.
Public scrutiny.
High expectations.

At the Margin District, this wasn’t just about getting approved, it was about aligning vision across the table.

What if you did this instead?

Design as a tool for alignment.

• Communicate clearly through form and structure
• Reflect the identity of the place from the beginning
• Build trust through thoughtful, intentional design

Because projects like the Margin District don’t move forward on drawings alone, they move forward on shared understanding.
