What the camera sees vs. what the set actually looks like.

A few days ago I shared the finished image of Acqua di Gioia — soft, atmospheric, fresh and almost dreamlike.

Here’s what was actually happening behind the camera.

I built the scene on a green surface and used a decorative cutout as a gobo to create the architectural pattern of light and shadow behind the bottle. A hard light placed behind it gave me those long shadows and helped create the bright, sunlit feeling.

Then came the atmosphere. My Smoke Ninja added the haze that catches the light, softens the scene and gives the final image that ethereal, almost watery quality.

Nothing about the set itself needs to be elaborate.

It’s understanding how light, shadow, color, texture and atmosphere will translate through the camera that turns a simple setup into a finished commercial image.

That transformation is one of my favorite parts of product photography.

Fresh. Airy. Aquatic.

Acqua di Gioia is a fragrance inspired by water, nature and freshness — so instead of simply photographing the bottle, I wanted the entire image to feel like the fragrance.

Soft green tones. Reflections. Diffused light. A little atmosphere and movement surrounding the bottle.

That’s one of my favorite parts of product photography: taking the personality of a product and translating it into a visual that makes you feel something before you ever pick it up.

Because beautiful product photography isn’t just about showing what the product looks like.

It’s about showing what the brand feels like.

I’m officially headed to Tampa for CRAFT Brewing and Distilling - C.R.A.F.T. + Frontline Tastings, and I’m incredibly excited to be part of an event built around supporting veteran entrepreneurs and the brands they’re building.

I’ll be attending the Media & Industry Social on September 22, connecting with the participating founders and brands, and then getting behind the camera to create professional product photography for several of the brands attending the event.

And we already have four brands signed up for photography!

That’s the part I’m most excited about. I love meeting the people behind a product, hearing the story behind the brand, and then figuring out how to translate that into imagery that helps them market what they’ve worked so hard to create.

For participating C.R.A.F.T. brands, I’m offering an exclusive event photography opportunity for clean, professional product images, and brands will also have the option to leave their products with me for more customized, brand-specific photography packages.

A huge thank you to the C.R.A.F.T. and Frontline Tastings team for this beautiful feature and for inviting me to be part of what they’re doing. Supporting veteran entrepreneurship while getting to do what I love — creating imagery that makes products and brands stand out — makes this one pretty special.

Tampa, I’ll see you in September.

RTDs deserve more than a basic can shot.

Ready-to-drink beverages are built to grab attention — and the photography should do the same.

For this image, the “set” is much simpler than it looks. The can isn’t sitting on the corner of a box at all. I used two flat pieces of colored paper against a black background, positioned to create an optical illusion of depth and dimension.

The blue and orange were chosen to pull directly from the packaging, while the black keeps the overall image bold and lets the can remain the hero.

That’s one of my favorite parts of product photography: creating a full visual environment around a product without necessarily building a complicated set. Sometimes a couple sheets of paper, intentional lighting and the right camera angle are all it takes.

With CRAFT Brewing and Distilling event coming up, I’m especially excited to connect with beverage brands producing RTDs, canned cocktails, spirits and other ready-to-drink products.

Whether you need clean e-commerce images, bold hero shots, social content, campaign imagery or a complete product collection, I create commercial photography designed around your packaging, your colors and your brand personality.

Behind the scenes of a little tropical product styling.

Lay flats are such a great way to add variety to a brand’s image library. For this setup, I layered tropical greenery, fresh fruit, warm metallic tones and cocktail elements to create a bright, sun-soaked feel — all built and photographed right here in the studio.

These types of images work beautifully for social media, websites, email campaigns and promotional graphics because they tell more of a visual story while still keeping the product front and center.

Sometimes changing the perspective completely changes the story.

Luxury doesn’t always need an elaborate set.

Sometimes, it’s about controlling the light and letting the product speak for itself.

For this Dom Pérignon bottle, I wanted a clean, dramatic image that felt every bit as luxurious as the bottle itself.

I used two strip lights, positioned on either side, to create those long, controlled highlights that define the shape of the glass and separate it from the black background.

The bottle was photographed on black plexiglass, giving me that subtle reflection underneath while keeping the entire scene dark, polished and sophisticated.

And then there’s the champagne itself — that warm golden glow against all that black.

No elaborate props. No complicated set.

Just intentional lighting, reflection and a product that deserves to be the center of attention.

Luxury product photography is as much about what you leave out as what you put in.

AI has its place. But your brand deserves to look like your brand.

We’re seeing more and more AI-generated product imagery—and while the technology can create some incredible things, there’s a difference between generating a beautiful image and intentionally creating photography that tells the story of a specific product.

This image was created entirely in camera.

Acqua di Giò translates to “Water of Giò,” so water became the inspiration for the entire concept.

Real bottle.
Real water.
Blue gel lighting.
And a hair dryer blowing across the water to create the movement, texture and ripples you see surrounding the fragrance.

Nothing about the scene was accidental. It was designed around the identity of the product.

That’s where professional product photography matters.

When you invest in your brand, your imagery should showcase what makes your product distinctive—not place it into a scene that could have been generated for any other bottle, can, cigar, fragrance or package.

Your colors. Your packaging. Your textures. Your story. Your personality.

AI can absolutely be a useful creative tool. But it shouldn’t replace the intentional photography that gives a brand its visual identity.

Be proud of what you created.

Invest in imagery that was created specifically for it.

LAY FLATS — MORE THAN JUST A PRODUCT SHOT

A strong product gallery isn’t only about the traditional hero image.

Lay flat photography gives brands another way to tell the story of a product while creating imagery that works beautifully for social media, websites, advertising, email campaigns and other marketing content.

For this Crown Royal Salted Caramel image, I built the scene from above using warm wood, a poured whisky and pieces of chocolate to complement the flavor profile and create an image that immediately feels rich, warm and indulgent.

That’s what I love about a well-planned lay flat.

The supporting elements help communicate flavor, mood and brand personality without competing with the product itself.

When I’m creating a commercial image gallery for a client, I like to think beyond one “perfect bottle shot.” Hero images, detail shots, lay flats, lifestyle imagery and other compositions give a brand a much more versatile library of content to pull from throughout its marketing.

One product. Multiple ways to tell its story.

Luxury isn’t limited to what’s in the bottle.

From fine spirits and fragrance to jewelry, watches and other high-end goods, my approach to product photography is always the same: intentional lighting, attention to detail, and imagery designed to make the product feel as premium as the brand behind it.

For this watch shot, I wanted to emphasize the details that make the piece stand out — the brushed metal, deep black dial, vivid green accents and those unmistakable pops of orange — while keeping the overall image clean, bold and sophisticated.

Commercial product photography is about more than simply documenting what something looks like. It’s about creating an image that communicates quality, craftsmanship and value before the customer ever holds the product in their hands.

And while you may see a lot of bottles coming out of my studio these days, my lens is definitely not limited to spirits.

Watches. Jewelry. Fragrance. Ci**rs. Food & beverage. Luxury goods.

If your brand creates something worth noticing, I want to photograph it that way.
