Leaves are starting to fall and this is a great time to have your fruit trees inspected and on the books for pruning work before the 2027 growing season!

Fruit trees, such as crabapples, apple trees, spring snow crabs to name a few, need to be pruned when they are dormant.

Pruning during the growing season increases risk of disease infection and spreading disease in fruit trees and is not a recommended practice.

Special pruning practices such as blade sanitation need to coupled with the work during the dormant season to preserve fruit tree health and production.

Lastly, pruning while the tree is dormant will set the tree up for optimal fruit production the next growing season!

We know the next generation is already watching. 🌳

There’s something pretty cool about seeing a 7-year-old stop and watch as a tree is carefully picked over a house by a crane.

To him, it’s probably just a really big crane doing something REALLY cool. 😎

To us, it’s a reminder that the future of our industry is watching.

At CM Tree Service, we believe part of our responsibility is making sure there is a path for that next generation when they’re ready.

That’s why CM has invested in a Registered Arborist Apprenticeship through the Montana Department of Labor & Industry.

Our apprentices don’t just get a job — they get the opportunity to build a career.

The program combines paid, on-the-job training with classroom instruction, covering climbing, pruning, crane operations, plant health care, equipment operation, safety and the many other skills that go into becoming a professional arborist.

As apprentices gain skills and complete hours, their wages grow with them. And by the end of the program, they’ll have the experience and knowledge needed to prepare for the internationally recognized ISA Certified Arborist exam.

Because this industry needs skilled people.

It needs young people who want to work with their hands, learn a trade, operate some pretty incredible equipment and build a career they can be proud of.

And who knows...
Maybe one of them is standing on the sidewalk watching a crane today. 💚🌲

Last week was our annual conference for our Rocky Mountain Chapter of the ISA.
A couple of our favorite classes were on rigging forces and the key note speaker was spot on with his ideas on team building, culture and support. Each time we attend, we are able to reconnect with peers, talk big industry trends and learn something we can put into action. This year was no different. At the end of conference, it was announced that our very own Chandra Brown was voted in to be the Mt State Representative for the chapter board. It has been a long time goal of hers to work on industry level@projects and we are excited to see what the coming year brings to our region.

Winter can be tough on young trees… even on the sunny days. ☀️❄️

Sunscald happens when winter sun warms the bark during the day, followed by a rapid temperature drop after sunset. That freeze/thaw swing can damage bark—especially on young fruit trees and trees with thin or dark bark.

One of the simplest ways to help prevent it? Tree wraps.

But wrapping the tree isn’t a “set it and forget it” job.

🌳 Wrap young, susceptible trunks before winter weather settles in.
🌳 Check wraps OFTEN throughout the season to make sure they haven’t shifted, loosened, trapped moisture, or become too tight.
🌳 Pay extra attention during winters with heavy snow. Snow can reflect even more sunlight onto the trunk, increasing the temperature swings that contribute to sunscald.

A little prevention now can save a lot of damage come spring.

Aleada has been part of the CM family since July 2025. She is the first voice you hear when calling into the office and the keeper of all the things.
From customer calls, to job information and the most recent "tea" when it comes to apocalyptic end of world scenarios, Aleada keeps us all on our toes!

In her free time, Aleada enjoys her family. She is a fierce mama to her own kiddos, as well as a wonderful advocate and protector for her foster children.

At work, Aleada keeps things fun. She has the best jokes, and can come up with the wildest information on ANYTHING you want to know. She is a master sleuth as well and probably should be a detective / spy of some sort.

We are so thankful to have her as part of our team! Thank you for all you do to keep us rolling Aleada!!
