Native Creations Landscape Services, Inc. We are a residential and commercial landscape company dedicated to promoting the use of native plants in PA landscapes.

We have spent years working to control invasive plant species throughout Pennsylvania and observing the effect these plants can have on the ecosystem as a whole, With over a decade of experience working primarily with native trees, shrubs, and flora; plants naturally found throughout the landscapes of Pennsylvania, and the implementation of thousands of acres of reforested natural landscapes, Native Creations has created a niche in the landscape industry dedicated to bringing native plants into residential, commercial and conservation projects creating a better, natural landscape for the customer and neighboring ecosystems. Native plants are plants indigenous to a given area in geologic time. This includes plants that have developed, occur naturally, or existed for many years in an area (trees, flowers, grasses, and other plants). Many of the invasive plant species found in natural areas are "escapees" from nearby landscapes. Commonly used exotic, ornamental, or non-native plants have a tendency to spread / escape into the wild. Since these plants are not part of our existing landscape, they tend not to have any form of natural control, thus, taking over areas once occupied by native plants. This displaces wildlife and insects which once thrived on the existing plants. The more non-native plants that move into a natural area, the more it hinders the function of the ecosystem. Planting native stock has many benefits to the customer also:
-Require less to no fertilization
-Easy Care
-Acclimated to our climate zone / already existing in our zones
-Pest and disease resistant
-Greater success rate
-Many species are browse tolerant
-Great selection of seasonal colors
-Multi-functional landscapes
-Many Native Plants are hypo-allergenic

The tradition continued this year for the 171st Bloomsburg Fair marking 6 years of our team working in collaboration with the ThorneCare Landscape Solutions, LLC team to design and bring together the main display in the Horticulture Building.
Always a time of the season we all look forward to; not only working together, but building something for visitors to enjoy.

Be sure to check out all the great entries in the buildings this year when you visit.

Not all thistle species are problematic.

While conducting maintenance work on one of our favorite sites near Cherry Springs State Park, we look forward to the opportunity to visit with native Pasture Thistle (Cirsium pumilum) in it's natural home.

The native is not as aggressive nor does it spread vastly like the Canada Thistle or plumeless varieties we typically encounter across the state.

We first noticed this patch just over 2 years ago and are always delighted to see it during our visits.

Why mow down the flowers?!?

This is part of meadow management. While the natives are setting, it's not at all uncommon to get an influx of undesirable species that can impose a struggle for the native perennials.

However, often times, these undesirable plants are nothing more than opportunistic spaceholders such as common ragweed and foxtail. Weather conditions this season favored those species moreso than the desirable ones.

Therefore, by mowing high (8"+) before the undesirable species go to seed, will help reduce their pressures in the following growing seasons.

Most of the desirable species will push and flower again before the growing season comes to an end.

What a beautiful day to be in the field! 🌾☀️

After a successful online workshop earlier in the week, participants had the opportunity to continue the learning during our optional Meadow Management Workshop field day. Together, we explored real-world meadow sites, discussed long-term management strategies, and learned from experienced practitioners—all under perfect summer skies.

A special thank you to our partners at PA DCNR and Native Creations Landscape Services for their generous support and for helping make this hands-on learning experience possible. We appreciate your expertise, hospitality, and commitment to advancing successful meadow management across the region.

We're always looking to expand our training opportunities. Are there other meadow topics you'd like to see us cover in future workshops? Let us know in the comments!

June is National Pollinator Month! 🐝🌱

This is a great time to give back and appreciate these small but mighty creatures. One simple way to contribute is by reducing the area of mowed lawn and planting native species.

Traditional turfgrass provides little to no habitat or food sources for pollinators. Native plants naturally thrive, and sustain the pollinators and wildlife that keep our ecosystem healthy.
