Hopefully you’re willing to read and stick with me on this one. Another look behind the scenes of what I do. I mostly just want to get these pics off my camera roll.

I’ve been hesitant to post this remodel due to the toxic nature of how it finished, but before it turned toxic it was a very enjoyable job.

I took this job because the previous contractor bothched so many things within just the first few weeks of being on site that the client decided to fire him. I had just finished up a previous job fixing the same contractors work and agreed to take on this project as well. He oversold, over promised, and way under bid. Plus, there were quite a few “wish list items” he claimed he couldn’t accomplish. A good amount of demo was finished, minus the “wish list items”. Demo was: 4 layers of flooring, 6” of stone on the fireplace wall, a powder room, and popcorn ceilings (to some degree, with painting already started 🤦🏼‍♂️).

The first group of pics will be what I walked into, and agreed to fix. Second will be a walkthrough and pics of the beginning stages of reconstruction. Lastly will be the “after” pics that I was able to get before we left, and a walkthrough. Enjoy

Sneak peak behind the glamour. The majority of what I post is before-and-after a but rarely the in-between. This is one of my most dreaded parts of my job, but in all honesty, one of the most important. Instead of just grouting the corners and caulking them with clear silicone I like to use color matched silicone grout caulking. Personally I think it looks nicer and leaves a nicer bead. The taping off is so painstaking, but oh so worth it.

When a friend/neighbor asks you to build them a workstation for their landscaping business, you oblige. This was a ton of fun. I’m not known for building custom furniture but if you ask for it, I’ll build it. They couldn’t find anything that met their dimension requirements so it had to be custom. Along with the adjustable drafting table and detachable shelving so it can all be moved. So happy they chose me for this piece. Oh, and the cute headboard to tie it all together.

One of my recent projects. Old hand railing was rotting out and needed updating. Plus, the old lattice was just out dated and falling apart. I tore everything out and replaced it all. I added a 6x6 beam and changed the hand railing of the stairs for more stability. Changed the lattice to something more concealing and modern. Painted and finished!!

Aaand finally!! Outside of a piece of art to hang above the bed, I finally finished this wonderful room for my momma. I tried to brighten up the first “before” pic. The walls and ceiling were plain and just the builders grey that she picked when she built. 2nd pic is showing the panels I put up for a smooth backdrop. 3rd photo is before the ceiling was started. One thing that’s not too noticeable is that I changed the ceiling color from the grey to white which helped make the ceiling feel higher again. Dark colors tend to close in a room so the new wood feature and old grey color closed in the space. The white changed everything. The inside lip of the trace ceiling is the same yellow as the walls but that’s not noticeable in the pictures. Last pic is of the little corner shelf I built to match the ceiling.

So far my favorite space that we’ve redone in my moms house. The first pic is a collage I put together of what it looked like before because I forgot to take a before pic. Shortly after my mom bought her house I added the stained shelf just above the washer and dryer but it never seemed like enough. Storage was that dinky shelf and everything was out in the open. I handmade the new cabinets and added 18”x18” tiles that fit perfectly with very minimal cutting. Being that we only needed 6 tiles, the shelf was already built, and the paint is the same as her front door, this entire project was insanely inexpensive. Even though it’s just a laundry room it feels so inviting. I just wish laundry was actually as fun as the room. •

Although my industry is considered “essential” it’s still been very difficult to line up any work being that people don’t want anyone in their home. Very thankful for this friend/neighbor who has allowed me to give her living space a little facelift. It’s amazing how a feature wall and casing some doorways can truly transform a space. The window and slider in the same space will be cased out next week to tie everything together. Thanks •

Tile, tile, and more tile. I have never been the type of contractor that believes my design and opinion matter more than my clients. I am always willing to offer an opinion but in the end I just want to do what makes the client happy. My style isn’t for everyone, thus, interjecting at times could mean losing a client or them not liking what I pick. I choose to work with them on what they like and the direction they want to go. In this particular bathroom the client knew what she wanted, her husband is also a contractor and could have done the entire job but was simply too busy, so they called on me to bring the design to fruition. It was a ton of cutting and adjusting, and pattern-ing...🤪, but we made it through. The tiles laid out on the floor give you a better look at the design she chose using 3 different tiles. her husband hand built the new vanity and they had the top custom made. •

•Elegance•
I walked by this chandelier probably 20 or so times over the course of two weeks and never even noticed it. When it came time to give it a home I saw something hidden in it. Whoever thought those plastic fake crystals looked good on it was crazy, but it helped the purchase price no doubt. I LOVE antiquing and could walk flea markets and antique shops all day every day!! This light, along with the sweet old tin I converted into a ceiling medallion, is by far my favorite thing I’ve ever found. It may not be everyone’s taste but to me it’s a statement!! •

•When you make a house a home•
This here is my mommas sweet little home. It’s been an absolute joy of mine to work with my mom and help her transform an already beautiful house into a much more personalized space where she can truly feel at home!! We knew we wanted to do something to the tv wall a few years ago because it was such a blank canvas, but we weren’t sure what. I knew she loves shiplap and the “farmhouse” feel so we were able to make this vision become a reality. One day I was just like “here’s what we’re gonna do” and we started with the hallway beams and went from there. The little touches of decoration truly complete the space and help it feel less empty. I think she’s still gonna replace the decoration above the tv with something larger, and possibly get a dining room rug (any one have thoughts on that?)! Added note: the dining table is a one off, handmade by yours truly! My first and only dining room table so far. Anyway, that’s a long enough post even though I could talk about this space all day. •

Last but not least, the master bathroom. Worst part of this old master bath was the carpet! 🤢 Plus, the shower entrance was so small and closed off it was like showering in a cave. The enclosed shower space created/trapped so much moisture that mold became an issue. Grout had begun to corrode and trap moisture under the tiles, so everything had to be gutted and redone. I thought I had more finished pictures of this space, which I’m bummed about. These shower tiles were the largest I’ve ever installed and thought they’d make my job a whole lot easier, boy was I wrong. Even though I didn’t use even 1 full 2ft x 4ft tile, they were heavy and insane to level and install 10ft above my head. Thoroughly enjoyed this one though! ✌🏼👏🏻
Reno list:
-client tore out carpet
-gut shower
-raise shower head to accommodate a normal sized human
-install new shower valve and plumbing
-tore out wall above shower door for more light and air
-widened shower entrance
-client painted
-updated countertop, backsplash, and trimmed the mirror
-updated all hardware
-installed moisture resistant shower light
-new toilet @ Fort Collins, Colorado
