๐ŸŽ๐ŸŒฑ Ever wondered if an apple seed can really become an apple tree?

Apple (Malus domestica) seeds can germinate and grow into healthy trees, but thereโ€™s an important catch: the new tree may NOT produce apples identical to the one you ate. Seed-grown trees are genetically different from their parents, and fruiting can take several years.

For the best start, clean the seeds, give them the cold, moist conditions they need to break dormancy, then plant the sprouted seeds in well-draining soil. Give the young tree plenty of sunlight and patience. ๐ŸŒณ

Would you try growing an apple tree from a seed?

An underrated part of good stormwater management: letting rain soak into the ground instead of rushing off into storm drains helps recharge groundwater โ€” which is what keeps our wells running. That matters even more as new development adds more houses, and more wells, all drawing from the same aquifer.

Here in our little slice of Almost Heaven, West Virginia, we've still got weeks of growing weather ahead of us. Now is the perfect time to plant cool-weather favorites like carrots, beets, kale, spinach, radishes, and even some potato varieties. It's also a great opportunity to start an herb garden!
