There’s something pretty exciting about seeing a fresh slab poured because this is where a new home officially starts to take shape.
But before the walls go up and the fun finishes begin, there’s a lot of work that happens underneath and around the concrete that may not get much attention.
A good slab starts with the things you won’t see when the house is finished:
• Proper site preparation and grading
• Compacted, stable soil
• Correct footings and reinforcement
• Plumbing and utilities installed in the right locations
• Proper v***r barrier and moisture protection
• Careful forming and layout
• Correct concrete placement, finishing and curing
These aren’t necessarily the “fun” parts of building a home—but they’re some of the most important.
The floors, walls, cabinets and finishes all depend on what’s happening underneath them. Cutting corners on the foundation can create problems that show up years down the road, while taking the time to get these details right gives the home a solid foundation literally and figuratively.
This week, we’re starting a new home from the ground up. Fresh slab today. Dream home next.
We’re excited to bring you along for the build. 🔨
