Here are some safety tips to keep in mind in Autumn:
Yard & Home Safety
Manage wet leaves: They create slippery walkways and encourage mold; rake or mulch regularly to keep paths safe.
Protect your lawn: Thick leaf layers can suffocate turf. Mulch with a mower until coverage is under 50%, then remove the rest.
Mulch effectively: Mower‑mulched leaves improve soil health, moisture retention, and w**d suppression. Raise the mower deck and clear debris before mowing.
Avoid curbside leaf piles: Children shouldn’t play in piles near streets — hazards and tripping risks may be hidden underneath.
Driving Safety
Slow down on wet leaves: They can be as slick as ice, reducing traction and increasing stopping distance.
Watch for hidden hazards: Leaves can obscure potholes, lane markings, and other road cues.
Clear your vehicle: Remove leaves from the windshield, hood, vents, and wipers to maintain visibility and prevent mechanical issues.
Prepare for fall conditions: Earlier sunsets, fog, and reduced visibility require adjusted speeds and fully functioning lights.
