DIY solar kits sound like a deal at first.

They're not. The kit itself is only 30% of the actual cost. Oregon requires permits. Your utility requires inspections. Most DIY attempts end up hiring a licensed electrician anyway, at which point you've lost the savings and the warranty.

The 30% federal tax credit was real. And now it’s gone.

What we’re seeing right now is a lot of homeowners waiting. Waiting to see if it comes back. Waiting for the “right” program. Waiting for clarity.

But while that’s happening, the utility bill keeps showing up every month. Full price. No protection. No control.

And rates aren’t staying still as they’ve already climbed over 50% the last few years, and they’re expected to keep going. So waiting doesn’t really save money anymore. It just means you’re locking in higher costs over time.

Solar changes that right away.

The moment your system turns on, you’re producing your own power and using it in real time. That’s electricity you don’t buy from the utility. That’s money that stays in your pocket. That math works whether there was a tax credit or not, because the real value is replacing a rising bill with something you control.

The tax credit was always going to phase out. It did what it was designed to do.

What hasn’t changed is this:

There’s nothing else that actually shields you from utility rate increases like owning your own power.

So avoiding solar right now isn’t really waiting for a better deal. It’s choosing to stay fully exposed to rising costs.
