John has had some time to think about his thoughts about this article and had some help writing what was on his mind.
He's honored to share this article and grateful to be considered for Fort Worth Inc.’s Entrepreneur of Excellence program.
As proud as he is of how Franz Architects has grown, he wants to clarify one important point. His father built a successful business based on his vision and the goals he set for himself. He accomplished what he wanted, created a firm with a strong reputation, and gave John an incredible foundation from which to build. For that, he will always be grateful.
He and his father simply had different visions for the firm. When he assumed leadership, he set different goals and began building on what he had established—expanding the firm in ways that reflected his own ambitions and ideas for its future.
Johns story is not about correcting his father’s shortcomings. It is about carrying forward what he created while building a legacy of his own.
Thank you to Fort Worth Inc. for sharing my story and for this meaningful recognition.
John Franz thought buying his father’s architecture firm was the fulfillment of a longtime goal. Then he discovered Franz Architects was $80,000 in debt with no money in the bank. He responded by rebuilding the Fort Worth firm around financial discipline, diversification and relationships — growing it from six employees to 22.
