Small acreage doesn’t always mean a small project. There was a whole lot packed into this yard expansion.
We started by forestry mulching the standing pine, roughly 6–10” and larger, followed by the piled hardwood averaging around 10” in diameter. That left us with about a foot of mulch, so we pushed the excess to the perimeter to get after the stumps.
Next came stump grinding to remove the bulk of the stumps and main roots. Then another pass with the forestry mulcher across the entire area, edges included, to regrind the area flattening the edges and any chucks that were missed.
We spread the topsoil piles for a rough grade and pulled out large rocks, chunks of concrete, and whatever else showed up along the way.
Then came the one that rules them all, subsoil mulching. 🤌
We processed the ground 8–10” deep, deeper in places, grinding the remaining smaller stumps and roots and incorporating the mulch into the soil. Peeled some big rocks out in the process and pushed those aside, too.
Leveled, settled, and ready for seed with minimal handwork. A whole lot happened between that first photo and the last.
And we did it without hauling a single load off the property. More usable yard for these homeowners, using what was already there.
