✨ Vintage Is Back — But With a Modern Twist

One of the biggest design trends I’m seeing right now is the return of vintage-inspired interiors.

Homeowners are moving away from perfectly plain spaces and adding character through wallpaper, color, texture, and timeless patterns.

Botanical prints, classic florals, Art Deco-inspired geometrics, and rich colors are finding their way into powder rooms, entryways, and accent walls.

The goal isn’t to make a room look old. It’s to create a space that feels collected, unique, and full of personality.

Which style would you choose for your home: timeless vintage charm or clean modern minimalism?

How Murals Transform a Space

A mural is more than just wallpaper — it can completely change the feel of a room. The right mural adds personality, creates a focal point, and helps tell the story of your home.

Murals work especially well in bedrooms, nurseries, home offices, living rooms, and on accent walls. Scenic landscapes, soft botanicals, abstract designs, and artistic textures can make a room feel larger, brighter, or more relaxing.

However, murals are not always the best choice. In very small rooms, busy patterns can feel overwhelming. Large furniture that covers most of the image may also reduce the visual impact. Choosing the right wall is just as important as choosing the design itself.

For the best results, the wall should be properly prepared and primed before installation. A smooth surface helps ensure a beautiful finish and long-lasting performance.

When thoughtfully selected and professionally installed, a mural can turn an ordinary wall into the most memorable feature of a room.

Wallpaper vs. Paint: Why the Price Difference?

One of the most common questions I hear is: “Why does wallpaper installation cost more than painting?”

The answer is not just the material itself. A lot depends on the condition of the walls, the type of wallpaper, and the complexity of the installation.

🖌️ Wall Condition Matters

Whether you’re painting or installing wallpaper, the quality of the wall surface is important.

For paint, small imperfections can often be hidden with proper preparation and quality paint.

Wallpaper is much less forgiving. Bumps, dents, old seams, uneven texture, and poorly repaired areas can show through the finished surface. In many cases, walls need additional preparation before installation.

🏠 Not All Wallpapers Are the Same

Wallpaper comes in many different materials and price ranges:

• Non-woven wallpapers
• Traditional paper wallpapers
• Vinyl wallpapers
• Grasscloth and natural fiber wallpapers
• Murals and custom prints
• Peel-and-stick wallpapers

Each material behaves differently during installation and requires different techniques.

📐 Pattern and Design Affect Labor

A simple solid-color wallpaper installs much faster than a large pattern or mural.

Large repeats, matching patterns, centering designs, working around windows, doors, and corners all increase the time required to achieve a professional result.

📌 Peel-and-Stick Is Not “Easy Wallpaper”

Many people assume peel-and-stick wallpaper should cost less because it doesn’t require paste.

In reality, peel-and-stick can often be more challenging to install than traditional wallpaper.

The material is less forgiving, tends to stick immediately, can trap air bubbles, and often requires additional time and precision to align patterns and achieve smooth seams.

💡 Choosing Between Paint and Wallpaper

Paint is usually the more economical option and allows for easy color changes in the future.

Wallpaper offers texture, pattern, character, and design impact that paint simply cannot replicate.

Neither option is universally better—the best choice depends on the look you want, your budget, and the condition of your walls.

A successful project starts with understanding the space and selecting the right finish for it.

A Few Thoughts on Accent Walls.

Accent walls are still one of the easiest ways to completely transform a room without fully redesigning the space.

A well-designed accent wall can:

• create a focal point in the room
• visually separate or “zone” an open space
• make ceilings feel higher or rooms feel larger
• add warmth, texture, or drama
• completely change the mood of a space

Wallpaper works especially well for accent walls because it adds depth and texture that paint alone often cannot achieve.

Where accent walls work best:

• behind a bed in a bedroom
• behind a vanity in a powder room
• around a fireplace
• dining rooms
• stairways and entry areas
• behind shelving or built-ins

Choosing the right wall matters. Usually, the best accent wall is the first wall your eye naturally goes to when entering the room.

Dark colors can create a cozy, dramatic atmosphere.

Light textures and soft neutrals can make a room feel calm and elegant.

Large-scale patterns create a bold designer look, while subtle textures add quiet luxury and sophistication.

One of the biggest mistakes is choosing a wall randomly. A good accent wall should feel intentional and balanced with the rest of the space.

Sometimes one wall is all a room needs.

How to Choose the Right Wallpaper for Different Rooms

Wallpaper is not only about style and color.
Different rooms have different conditions — humidity, sunlight, temperature changes, wall quality — and choosing the wrong material can shorten the life of even the most beautiful wallpaper.

Here are a few simple guidelines that really matter.

• Bathrooms and high-humidity areas
Not every wallpaper handles moisture well.
For powder rooms or bathrooms with good ventilation, washable vinyl or moisture-resistant wallpapers usually work best.
Delicate paper wallpapers and natural grasscloth are generally not recommended for humid spaces.

• Kitchens and dining areas
Walls near cooking areas are exposed to grease, steam, and frequent cleaning.
Washable and scrubbable wallpapers are usually the safest option here.
Textured wallpapers can look beautiful, but deep textures may collect dust and kitchen residue over time.

• Sunny rooms
Rooms with strong direct sunlight can fade certain colors over the years.
High-quality non-woven wallpapers tend to perform better in bright spaces.
Very dark colors may also absorb more heat and show fading faster on sunny walls.

• Dark or north-facing rooms
In darker rooms, wallpaper can completely change the feeling of the space.
Warm tones, soft textures, and reflective finishes can make a room feel brighter and more inviting.

• Hallways and high-traffic areas
Busy spaces benefit from durable materials.
Washable non-woven or vinyl wallpapers are often a practical choice because walls in hallways get touched and bumped more frequently.

• Older homes and uneven walls
Some wallpapers highlight every imperfection.
Very shiny finishes, metallics, or perfectly geometric patterns may emphasize uneven walls and corners.
Textured wallpapers or softer organic patterns are often more forgiving in older homes.

And sometimes the best decision is not wallpaper at all — at least not yet.
If walls have serious moisture problems, active leaks, or damaged surfaces, preparation comes first.

Good wallpaper should not only look beautiful on installation day.
It should still look beautiful years later in the way you actually live in the space.

We are the owners of our homes, our atmosphere, and our everyday surroundings — and walls play a bigger role in that feeling than people often realize.

Wallpaper as a Tool: How Patterns Transform a Space

Wallpaper is not just a wall covering. It’s a design tool that can visually fix a room’s flaws and completely change its mood — often more effectively than paint.

If the room is dark
Use light tones (beige, cream, soft gray), subtle patterns, and a bit of light reflection.
Avoid heavy or high-contrast designs — they make the space feel darker.

If ceilings are low
Vertical stripes or elongated patterns help raise the ceiling visually.
Tip: avoid overly bold or wide stripes — they can feel overwhelming.

If ceilings are too high
Horizontal elements, slightly darker tones, and dividing the wall (wallpaper + paint) help make the space feel more grounded and cozy.

If you want a cozy atmosphere
Choose soft patterns (florals, classic motifs, textures), warm tones, and smaller-scale designs.
Coziness comes from depth and softness, not brightness.

When stripes work best
Vertical — makes ceilings feel higher
Horizontal — makes space feel wider
Thin — classic and subtle
Bold — creates a statement
But remember: stripes highlight wall imperfections.

When to use a mural
Best on one accent wall.
Works well in larger spaces and where there’s a focal point (sofa, bed).
Avoid using murals on all walls or in small cluttered rooms.

If walls or corners are uneven
Avoid stripes, geometric patterns, and precise repeating designs — imperfections will stand out.
Instead, choose textured or soft, irregular patterns that help hide flaws.

Final thoughts
Wallpaper is not about “pretty or not.”
It’s about shaping your space:

— want height → go vertical
— want width → go horizontal
— want coziness → choose soft patterns
— want impact → use a mural
— want to hide flaws → avoid strict geometry

We are the owners of our lives and our space — and it’s up to us to decide what it should feel like.

Why Wallpaper Is Back: The Key Interior Trend of 2026

Not long ago, walls were simply painted — quick, neutral, and “safe.”
Today, interiors are shifting. Spaces are becoming warmer, more personal, and more expressive — and wallpaper is making a strong comeback.

Wallpaper is no longer just an alternative to paint.
It’s a way to create atmosphere.

Instead of choosing “just a color,” people are now choosing a feeling:
soft natural tones, subtle textures, and deeper patterns that make a room feel complete and inviting. Even neutral textured wallpaper often looks more refined than plain paint because of the depth and light it adds.

One of the strongest trends right now is large-scale designs and wall murals.
They turn a wall into a focal point and bring character to even the simplest space — especially in rooms with high ceilings or interesting architectural features.

At the same time, modern wallpaper is not what it used to be.
It’s more tactile, more balanced, and more intentional. Less random decoration — more design.

And most importantly:
wallpaper helps create a space that feels not just beautiful, but truly yours.
