These columns are being custom-fitted to irregular stone bases.

Scribing is a way to transfer the shape of one surface onto another. We scribed a jig to match each stone on site, then brought the jigs back to the shop to guide the cuts at the bottom of each column.

With each base having a different shape, attention to detail is key to getting each cut right and maintaining alignment across the overall structure.

This 2025 project is a traditional timber frame carport built for a client in Alaska. We supplied and fabricated over 6,000 board feet of Douglas-fir glulam and 3,000 board feet of solid-sawn purlins, added custom steel post bases for seismic loads, then prefinished it and shipped it up from the shop.
